ST Game Thoughts v3.0

-P Fernando Nieve is done for the day... three innings giving up three runs... ST ERA now 6.00, but that's lower than the entire projected 5-man rotation so far this spring...

-At this point in ST, I'd have to say that Gary Mathews Jr.will probably stick before Jason Pridie... Pridie (0-4 so far today, .176) is the leadoff hitter today and, though he's fast as hell, he still needs to get on base more often. Moreover, a lot of Mets subs are raking this spring, and you just don't want to have a below .200 BA right now... heck, even Anderson Hernandez is batting over .400.

-"Robert" Parnell pitched a scorelss sixth inning... two strikeouts... no, under no circumstance will he return to the rotation.  Frankly, with the additions of Calero and the two Japanese pitchers, he's fighting for his own spot in the Queens pen.

-Nelson Figueroa continues to be the "ace" of the staff, throwing two more scoreless innings...  can we say C O N T R A C T ?

-I'm sitting here trying to figure out the 25-man, when I relaized there is a good chance that Kelvim Escobar and Jose Reyes could start the season on the IR.

Let's see... IF:  Wright, Castillo, Cora, Murphy...

OF:  Francoeur, Mathews, Pagan, Bay...

C:  Blanco, Barajas

SP:  Santana, Maine, Perez, Pelfrey, Niese

RP:  K-Rod, Takahaski, Feliciano, Green, Iragashi, Parnell...

That's 21...  my guess:  Adams at SS, Carter 5th OF/3rd 1B, Jacobs 2nd 1B, and one more RP

No chance Reyes is on the DL come opening day .... no chance. Time to reork your list.

Forget Adam -- add Reyes. He will be fine and ready for opening day.

Add Calero to the bullpen.

I just have this feeling that Nieve will be in the bullpen and Green will either be sent to AAA or traded. Parnell could be gone as well if Green some how manages to stay. Nieve will be on this team.

Adams has no shot.

Calero, Figueroa amd Nieve should be in the bullpen and Green should be raded and Parnell should go back to AAA.

"should be traded", "no chance", "forget"... all harsh words...

we're just full of pinions here...

feel free to express yours but never say thngs like "no chance"... there is always a chance, especially with this team

Nelson Figueroa has pitched in three games and has allowed no runs in 8 innings. What more can he do to show Jeff Wilpon and Omar Minaya he should be on the 25-man roster?

Still no contract HD...

Figgy basically is laying low and concentrating on securing a 25-man spot, but, there doesn't seem to be anybody in his corner. I've seen this year after year with the Wilpon era... some players just become invisible...

According to CNBC: "NEW YORK METS Agreed to terms with INF Anderson Hernandez, INF Daniel Murphy, C Omir Santos, INF Nick Evans, OF Fernando Martinez, OF Chris Carter, OF Jason Pridie, C Josh Thole, INF Shawn Bowman, RHP Nelson Figueroa, RHP Fernando Nieve, LHP Pat Misch, RHP Bobby Parnell, LHP Jonathon Niese, RHP Tobi Stoner, RHP Eddie Kunz, RHP Jack Egbert and LHP Arturo Lopez on one-year contracts.

I wonder what the breakdown is, Figgy on the Mets/Figgy on the Bisons.
