Today's Game Thoughts Through Three Innings

-the last thing the Mets needed was another SP blowing up... Jon Niese started today and gave up three runs in the first inning to Atlanta. I'm sure most of you are following my "Rotation Circus" on the top, left side of this page...  right now, things look pretty bleak, but it's still early. All projected rotation guys are past their first outing, so much more is expected of them. Niese was doing the best... until today... ERA after one inning today is 9.82, which is still lower than Perez and Santana. Gulp.

-Atlanta's starting pitcher, Derek Lowe, was gone after one inning (first outting of the year/strict pitch count). I'm sure most Mets fans are glad that Omar didn't sign this guy, but I'm not one of them. Right now, all the Mets have is Santana and a bunch of SP 4s and 5s...  I'd take Lowe as an SP3 in a heartbeat.

-Niese settled down in the 2nd inning, giving up no runs, and left after two...  ST ERA is now 7.71.

-Fernando Nieve  (2.25) replaced him and tossed the third inning scoreless.
