From Press Release:
Binghamton Mets (24-27) at Bowie Baysox (27-25)
AA Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles
RHP Brad Holt (1-4, 9.90) vs. RHP Chorye Spoone (3-5, 4.42)
Game #52 • Wednesday, June 2, 2010
Prince George’s Stadium • Bowie, MD • 7:05 p.m.
LAST GAME: B-Mets first baseman Nick Evans smashed two
homers, both solo shots, but that was all the run-scoring for
Binghamton, which dropped the opener of the three-game set
7-2 at Bowie. The homers came off starter Steve Johnson,
who pitched well, striking out eight over six innings for his
second win. Chris Schwinden was not quite as fortunate. After
firing four, perfect innings, Schwinden was harassed for five
runs in the next one-plus innings to take the loss. Caleb Joseph
put the finishing touches on the Baysox run-scoring in
the seventh inning with a two-run homer off reliever Edgar
Ramirez, his second homer against the B-Mets this season.
The bottom three men in the order drove in four of Bowie’s
seven runs. Jim Hoey followed Johnson with two, shutout
innings and Brandon Cooney wrapped up the game with a
scoreless ninth.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Brad Holt will make his
eighth start of the season tonight for the B-Mets. He is coming
off his finest start of the season, a five-inning outing in which
he allowed just one hit en route to a 2-1 win over Akron May
28. Holt is 1-4 with a 9.90 ERA over 20 innings and opponents
bat .356 against the righty. Last season, he made 11
starts for Binghamton with a 3-6 record and a 6.21 ERA in 58
innings. He is considered the No. 5 prospect in the Mets system
by Baseball America. Holt was drafted by the Mets as a
first round supplemental pick in 2008, going 33rd overall out
of UNC-Wilmington.
RHP Chorye Spoone gets the call for Bowie tonight for his
11th start. His last start, May 28 at Richmond, was his longest
of the season. Spoone hurled seven innings of one-run work,
allowed just three hits and struck out a season-best seven
men for a win. He is 3-5 with a 4.42 ERA over 53 innings and
has walked 29 men. Spoone was participated in Major League
Spring Training a year removed from making just 10 starts in
2009 as he recouped from right shoulder surgery. He was
drafted in the eighth round of the June 2005 draft out of
Catonsville Community College in Baltimore.
EVANS DOES IT AGAIN!: For the second time in his last three
games, Nick Evans roped two homers in the same contest. He
tomahawked two solo homers last night off Steve Johnson,
two days removed from rocking two homers off Akron’s Eric
Berger and Bryan Price. He leads the B-Mets with 12 homers
and 35 RBI.
