Binghamton Mets (24-28) at Bowie Baysox (28-25)
AA Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles
LHP Mike Antonini (3-4, 4.66) vs. RHP Ryohei Tanaka (3-5, 4.34)
Game #53 • Thursday, June 3, 2010
Prince George’s Stadium • Bowie, MD • 7:05 p.m.
LAST GAME: For the second straight game a B-Mets player
smacked a pair of homers in a losing effort. This time it was
Reese Havens, who tagged Chorye Spoone for a pair of homers,
in Binghamton’s 8-5 loss at Prince George’s Stadium
Wednesday night. Haven ripped a solo shot in the first and a
two-run bomb in the third to give Binghamton a 3-0 lead.
However, like Tuesday, the Baysox plated seven unanswered
off starter Brad Holt and reliever Eddie Kunz, to take a 7-3
lead. Holt was charged with three runs in four-plus innings
and Kunz was hung with the loss after permitting four runs
over a third of an inning. Tyler Henson menaced both righties
with a homer, double and three runs driven in. Joel Guzman
also managed three hits and an RBI. Bowie outhit Binghamton
9-6 and took advantage of eight walks issued by B-Mets pitching.
Spoone was credited with the win after tossing six innings
of three-run work and Pat Egan recorded his fourth save,
bailing Ryan Ouellette out of trouble in the ninth after he put
the first three men on in the inning, allowing the tying run to
come to the plate.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Mike Antonini will make
his 11th start of the year tonight. He took a no-decision May
29 versus Akron after permitting three runs in 5.1 innings on
five hits, two of which were homers. On the year, Antonini is 3-
4 with a 4.66 ERA over 56 innings. The southpaw has walked
just seven men over that time and possesses the lowest walk
per 9 innings ratio among starters in the Eastern League
(1.13). Antonini went 7-5 with a 5.32 ERA over 25 appearances,
20 starts, spanning 115 innings last year with Binghamton.
He was the Mets 18th round choice in the June 2007
draft out of Georgia College & State University.
RHP Ryohei Tanaka is due for his turn in the rotation tonight
for Bowie. He is coming off his shortest start of the season
May 29 at Richmond, in which he allowed six runs on five hits
over 3.2 innings in a losing effort. The Japanese-born righthander
is 3-5 with a 4.34 ERA in 10 appearances, nine of
which have been starts (56 IP). He appeared in 21 games, of
which 12 were starts, last season for Bowie and recorded a 4-
4 mark with a 3.00 ERA over 75 innings. Tanaka was signed
out of Japan by the Orioles April 29, 2009.
