BINGHAMTON METS 2010 GAME NOTES

From Press Release:

Binghamton Mets (25-28) at New Britain Rock Cats (14-39)

AA Affiliate of the Minnesota Twins

RHP Josh Stinson (2-1, 3.09) vs. LHP Tyler Robertson (0-5, 4.89)

Game #54 • Friday, June 4, 2010

New Britain Stadium • New Britain, CT • 6:35 p.m.

LAST GAME: With a late-inning rally powered by Jon Malo’s

second home run of the season, Binghamton salvaged the

final game of its three-game set with Bowie by a 3-2 score.

Malo broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth with a two-run homer to left

of reliever Eddie Gamboa. The Baysox answered with a run off

Manuel Alvarez in the bottom of the frame, but Roy Merritt

entered and established order, tossing the final two innings in

hitless fashion to nail down his fourth save in five chances.

The starters for both teams were terrific with quality starts.

Mike Antonini hurled 6.1 innings, allowed one run on six hits

and tied a season-high with seven strikeouts. Ryohei Tanaka

was equally as good with a season-long, seven innings of onerun

work. Neither factored in the decision, however. Alvarez

was awarded the win, his second. Kirk Nieuwenhuis was the

only B-Mets position player with two hits. He drove in Binghamton’s

first run in the third inning with a single to center

and added another single in the eighth.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Josh Stinson will make

his second start of the season after moving into the rotation a

week ago from the bullpen. He impressed in his first start May

30 versus Akron with 4.1 innings of one-run work, allowing

just two hits. For the year, the righty is 2-1 with a 3.09 ERA

over 43.2 innings. In 2009, Stinson split the season between

Savannah (Low-A) and St. Lucie (High-A) and went 5-3 with

eight saves and a 2.86 ERA in 78.2 innings combined. The

Mets took him in the 37th round of the June 2006 draft.

LHP Tyler Robertson is due for his 10th start with New Britain

tonight. He has lost three straight starts, including his last one

May 30 at Portland, where he allowed seven runs, two

earned, on six hits over 3.2 innings. On the season, the southpaw

is 0-5 with a 4.89 ERA over 42.1 innings. Robertson

tallied an 8-8 mark and a 3.33 ERA with Fort Myers (High-A)

last season over 26 starts (143.1 IP). Minnesota drafted the

lefty in the third round of the June 2006 draft out of Bella

Vista HS (CA).
