LAST GAME: Binghamton’s hurlers walked 10 men, helping Trenton to a 6-2 victory over the B-Mets at Waterfront Park Friday night. Eric Niesen lasted just 1.1 innings after permitting three runs on two hits with four walks in a losing effort. In contrast, Lance Pendleton was terrific for the Thunder, tying a season-high with seven innings of work for his fourth win. The righty struck out a season-best nine men. Binghamton’s runs came courtesy of Luis Hernandez who drove in two with a fourth-inning sac fly and a sixth-inning RBI single. Eddie Kunz pitched well out of the bullpen in long relief, tossing 3.2 innings of shutout baseball, despite three walks. Justin Christian and Austin Krum plated a pair of runs to pace the Thunder.  Kevin Whelan nailed down the save for Trenton with two, scoreless innings to finish the game. Benches and bullpens cleared in the seventh inning, resulting in two ejections: pitching coach Mark Brewer and Trenton DH Jorge Vazquez.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Chris Schwinden will seek to end a personal three-game losing streak tonight in his fifth Double-A start. He gave up five runs on nine hits June 6 at New Britain in a losing effort. Schwinden has allowed five runs in three straight starts, all lossess, and carries a 1-3 mark and a 7.32 ERA over 19.2 innings. He was named a 2010 Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star after his promotion to Double-A. Schwinden opened the year with St. Lucie (High-A) and went 3-0 with a 1.83 ERA over 34.1 innings. He spent most of 2009 with Savannah (Low-A) where he was 9-6 with a 3.28 ERA over 115.1 innings. Schwinden was the Mets’ 22nd round selection in the June 2008 draft out of Fresno
Pacific University.

RHP D.J. Mitchell is slated to make his 12th start of 2010 tonight. He garnered a no-decision in his last start, June 5 versus Richmond, when he allowed four runs on four hits over six innings, while walking four. Mitchell is 4-3 with a 4.94 ERA over 58.1 innings. He went 12-7 with a 2.63 ERA in 25 appearances, 24 starts, in 2009 between Charleston (Low-A) and Tampa (High-A). Drafted by New York (AL) in the 10th
round of the June 2008 draft out of Clemson
