From Press Release:
Bowie limited Binghamton to four hits in a 5-0 shutout victory in Game 1 of a doubleheader, but the B-Mets responded with a 6-3 triumph in the nightcap Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium to split the twin bill. Chorye Spoone recorded his fifth straight quality start to beat Binghamton for the second straight start in the first game. However, Brad Holt provided the answer in the second game recording a season-best six strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings, falling an out short of his second victory.
Bowie (30-28) pushed across three in the second inning against spot-starter Scott Shaw. Brandon Waring and Tyler Henson roped doubles to start the inning. With one out, Carlos Rojas brought in Waring with a sac fly to center. Two more runs came across on a bloop single to center from Caleb Joseph, upping the lead to 3-0. The Baysox tallied single runs in the third and the sixth to advance the margin to five. Left-hander Pedro Viola came on in the seventh and finished the shutout with a pair of strikeouts over a 1-2-3 inning.
Game two was a different story. Holt was on point early retiring 10 in a row after allowing a leadoff single.
The B-Mets manufactured a run without the benefit of a hit in the second frame of action. Making his 2010 debut, Josh Perrault hit D.J. Wabick with a pitch to start the inning. Wabick took off on Perrault’s first pitch to Eric Campbell and stole second. Catcher Steve Lerud’s throw went into center, allowing Wabick to advance to third on the error. With two outs, Binghamton took a 1-0 lead when Wabick trotted home on a Perrault wild pitch.
In the third, Kirk Nieuwenhuis led off with a double to the gap in right. Reese Havens joined him on base with a single to left, putting runners at the corners. Perrault departed in favor of Eddie Gamboa. Nick Evans was first to face the reliever and roped a sacrifice fly to right, chasing home the B-Mets second run of the contest. With Havens on the move from first, Lucas Duda plugged the alleyway in right, plating Havens. Duda scored the final run of the three-run outburst on Campbell’s single to left, making it 4-0 Binghamton.
