Minor Mets 101: - DSL, Brad Holt, Maldonado and Captain Kirk

-we haven’t taken a look at the DSL teams so far this season… the DSL-1 team (remember, there is no more VSL team; instead, there are two DSL teams) is 8-9, in fifth place and three games out of first. Turning heads so far are CF Eudy Pena (.328/.417/.541/.958), P Carlos Gomez (2-1, 1.56, 0.87), and SP Martires Arias (3-0, 0.56, 0.69, 1-ER, 16.0-IP). The DSL-2 team is currently led by C Hector Alvarez (.317/.356/.390/.746), and the “perfect”pitching of P Issac Monroe (2-0, 0.00, 0.62, 13.0-IP) and Yancarlos Javier (1-0, 0.00, 0.94, 16.0-IP).

-I just finished positng my thoughts on where which pitcher will go where in the next two weeks, and the Mets threw a slow curve at me. AA-Binghamton SP Brad Holt, who has had a miserable season so far for the B-Mets, was transferred back to St. Lucie. What a great move! I’m sure this wasn’t done to bolster the Lucy rotation. This will reunite Holt with the Florida coaching staff and they can work with him daily on his lack of developing quality secondary pitchers that could someday make him a pro starter.

-so, now what? St. Lucie now has six starters, none of which are ready for AA… where do the Savannah guys go? And, Binghamton has already slotted Scott Shaw back into Holt’s slot… does that close a promotion opening? Stay tuned.

- the Brahiam Maldonado promotion from St. Lucie to Binghamton probably says more to the extent of the Captain Kirk injury than the prowess of Maldo. Last word I had was Nieuwenhuis would remain “day-to’day” but they didn’t expect him back for “a couple of weeks”.
