11-16-07 from: - http://www.gotigersgo.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/111607aaa.html - University of Memphis Head Coach Daron Schoenrock got the early signing period underway by signing one of the Memphis area's top outfield prospects--Christian Brothers High School's Drew Martinez--to a National Letter of Intent. A three-year letterwinner in the outfield and on the pitchers mound for Head Coach Buster Kelso, Martinez has enjoyed a stellar prep career. Since his freshman season, the outfielder has compiled a .401 batting average, while reaching base at a .525 clip. In addition, he has driven in 68 runs, scored 162 more, banged out 35 doubles, swiped 76 bases and hit three homers. Martinez had his most successful campaign in 2007, when he helped guide the Purple Wave to a 40-8 mark and its second Division II Tennessee State title in three years. The Brothers also claimed the Tennessee State crown in Martinez's freshman year. As a junior, Martinez hit .427 with 58 runs scored, 35 stolen bases, 30 RBI and 16 doubles. Those numbers earned him All-Region and All-Metro accolades. He was tabbed a 2007 TSWA DII All-State performer and joined current Tiger freshman Chad Bell, Marcus Barnes, Robby Graham and Ryan Holland on the 2007 TCBA AAA/DII All-State Team. Martinez was a Division II West All-Region and All-Metro selection in 2006 after helping CBHS to a third-place finish in the DII State tournament with a 40-3 record.
