R.I.P. - NY Mets - Bob Mandt

Bob Mandt, who was a Met before Casey Stengel, Marv Throneberry and Gil Hodges, passed away yesterday at the age of 74, after a losing a battle with emphysema. Mandt had been associated with the Mets for 50 years.



Mandt began selling tickets at the basement of the Hotel Martinque in Manhattan and at the Grand Central Terminal in 1961 and moved to the Polo Grounds in 1962 to run the club’s mail department.



Through the years, Mandt served the club as the team’s Ticket Manager, Vice President of Operations, Vice President, Purchasing and Special Projects and Vice President, Stadium Operations. The longtime Whitestone native worked in the front office until 2004 and spent the last six years as a consultant to the Mets.

Mandt was honored at Citi Field this year with the first recipient of the Mets Hall of Fame Achievement Award.
