Fernando Martinez, Dillon Gee, Ike Davis, Roger McDowell, Duke Snider

Fernando Martinez (RF, NYM)—Another prospect probably gone in your league but he has potential. It feels like people don’t think as much of him as they used to but maybe it’s because he’s been in the Mets system for five seasons already. He’s still only 22 and has potential for the combination of power and speed so I’m buying if he’s still available. (He crushed a second level shot against the Astros while this article was being written.) He may be up and down this season but he is worth the pick up if you have the ability to stash him. http://www.deepleagues.com/?p=3188

Dillon Gee: - Said Gee: “I don’t think that was really the issue tonight. I’ve just kind of felt bad the last two starts I’ve had. Going back to the last one, I got luckier last time than I did tonight. I just tried to battle through what I was doing out there. I mean, walking four or five guys and hitting a guy is never going to get it done. “It’s frustrating. My last two outings have been pretty frustrating for me. I’ve got to get back to work in my side sessions and stuff, and try to get the command back. I just feel off right now. … I struggled with the fastball command early on. That’s where it all starts. And the curveball, I just couldn’t throw it for a strike. The one pitch I was throwing for a strike every now and then -- the changeup -- I was throwing way too many of them. So then they started sitting on them.”

Ike Davis: - For Mets fans, there’s not much to cheer about these days, but it’s not Ike’s fault. The young first basemen has followed up on his strong rookie campaign with an even better sophomore season. Davis, 24, is batting .302 with a .925 OPS and already has seven home runs and eight doubles on the season. He’s also done a terrific job cutting down his strikeouts from a gaudy 139 in 2010 to just 31 so far in 2011. He’s going to have to carry a large part of the Mets offense in the future, but it looks like he’s more than capable.

Roger McDowell: - McDowell had issued an apology in a statement following the April 23 confrontation but had made no further comment before today. He was accompanied by Braves President John Schuerholz, who noted in a statement the coach has "acknowledged and apologized for his behavior of a couple weeks ago." The suspension by Major League Baseball came after a fan made McDowell's actions public. Justin Quinn was at the Braves-Giants game in San Francisco with his wife and 9-year-old twin daughters. He said he saw McDowell ask three men, "Are you guys a homo couple or a threesome?"
