Baseball: Matt Moore, Josh Geer, Michael Cuddyer, CSU-Bakersfield, Matt Dominguez

This story is about Matt Moore, a six-foot-two inch left-hander with an electric arm. Moore gets tremendous whip and extension, sitting often reaching 96-97 MPH on his fastball. Reports even have him hitting triple-digits in short spurts. This pitch features excellent arm side run and Moore’s slightly-across his body release point adds deception. Moore has a wipeout ‘slurve’ and an emerging change-up that features excellent fade at times. Moore’s ‘slurve’ has the look of a slider, but he calls it a curveball. Regardless of how one defines it, few would disagree it’s simply ‘disgusting’ in the most endearing of ways. - http://scoutingthesally.com/matt-moore-pitching-prospect-david-price-tampa-bay-rays

San Diego Padres pitcher Josh Geer had his 2011 season derailed in April after being diagnosed with Stage III Melanoma. He is set to resume throwing during the Padres Instructional League in October. In the story link below, Geer talks about his battle with the cancer, the negative side effects of his treatment, working his way back to the mound, and now being cancer free. - http://topprospectalert.com/2011/09/20/padres-pitcher-josh-geer-ready-to-return-after-cancer-battle

(Michael) Cuddyer has earned about $29MM in his career, most of which comes from a multiyear contract he signed in January of 2008.  That became a four-year deal when the Twins exercised his $10.5MM option for 2011.  33 years old in March, Cuddyer is closer than he's ever been to free agency.  The Twins held on to him at both trade deadlines this year, despite interest from the Phillies, Braves, Giants, Red Sox, and Angels.  Cuddyer wants to stay, and the Twins reportedly floated a two-year, $16MM deal in August.  Joe Christensen said talks didn't get beyond that trial balloon, and the player prefers to resume talks after the season.  Cuddyer is represented by Casey Close of Excel Sports Management, as our agency database shows. - http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/09/free-agent-stock-watch-michael-cuddyer.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

In June, the Western Athletic Conference said "no" to CSU Bakersfield's bid to join the league in all sports. It's now official: The WAC has said "yes" to CSUB baseball. The Roadrunners and Dallas Baptist University have each accepted invitations to join the WAC as affiliate members for baseball only, starting with the 2013 season, the WAC and both universities announced Monday. CSUB went 33-22 last season as an NCAA Division I independent and barely missed out on an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament. - http://www.bakersfield.com/news/sports/csub/x710585822/Baseball-program-accepts-invitation-to-join-Western-Athletic-Conference
Matt Dominguez was drafted in the first round of the 2007 Draft. Dominguez will forever be linked to his High School team mate Mike Moustakas who went #2 overall to the Royals while Dominguez was taken by the Marlins at the 10 spot. Both projected as 3B with Dominguez getting the gold glove tag even before the draft and Moustakas getting the prolific power potential tag. Dominguez signed for an above slot $1.8mm and by-passed a ride to Cal State Fullerton. He immediately ranked in our Top 100 Prospect List based on his glove alone. He came in at #83 for 2011: - http://baseballinstinct.com/2011/09/20/prospect-instinct-matt-dominguez-3b-florida-marlins
