FLASH: Mets will get 2nd round pick from Marlins

According to Ken Davidoff of Newsday, the Mets will receive the Marlins' 2nd-round pick in the 2012 draft for losing Reyes, not the 3rd, as many opined early in the Winter Meetings.

Opinion: Thank God. It made no sense to me that the Marlins would keep a second round pick even after poaching Reyes off of the Mets. Heath Bell was an adjusted free agent and so the Padres received a pick "9A" in front of the Marlins' second round pick. The Mets will now get that pick from the Marlins. Lastly, if the Marlins sign Fielder or someone with a higher ranking than Reyes, the Mets will get the 3rd round pick. However, as it stands right now, the Mets will get four picks in the top 60 or so in next year's draft.

No Met fan is in the mood tonight to talk about "the future" of the Mets, but these four picks will add to the guys picked last year and will be the foundation of the 2015-2016 Mets.

I'll probably be propped up in the corner of a nursing home, with a straw in my mouth; however, I will whisper once or twice... "I told ya so..."

That was pretty funny Mack, and hopefully far from the truth in your case. The offseason and the draft are fast becoming far more exciting then the Mets actual season. I can't wait to see how Nimmo does and really hope he's on a full.season.team. Hopefully, the Mets can draft their future catcher or another future outfielder, like Nimmo. Between Gen 2k and the younger ones like Morris, Tapia, and Fulmer...I think its the position players they're largely going to need.
