Binghamton 9 - Harrisburg 3

B-Mets Win Finale, 9-3 to Earn DH Split

BINGHAMTON, NY – After dropping the first game of a doubleheader, 3-1, Binghamton responded by beating the Harrisburg Senators, 9-3, in the final game to earn the series split.

The offense came late for both teams in the first game, as both starting pitchers escaped any damage through the first four innings. Mark Cohoon got into trouble in the fifth; Brian Goodwin singled home Ricky Hague to give Harrisburg a 1-0 lead. After 4.2 innings, Cohoon was replaced by John Church. With a runner on first, Church faced Anthony Rendon as his first batter, and he welcomed him to the game by launching a two-run home run to left field.

Binghamton responded with an RBI groundout by Danny Muno in the fifth, but it was the only offense they could produce in the first game.

In Game Two, the B-Mets struck right away against Nathan Karns. They scored six runs in the first inning highlighted by two-run singles by Cesar Puello and Cory Mazzoni. They then tacked on three more runs in the second, with an RBI double from Blake Forsythe and a two-run double by Joe Bonfe.

On the mound, Mazzoni shut down the Senators. He threw 5.2 innings and only gave up one run on his way to earning his first win in 2013. The B-Mets not only earned the doubleheader split on Sunday, but also split the four-game series with two wins apiece.

The Akron Aeros are welcomed into NYSEG Stadium for a three-game series beginning Monday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Rafael Montero will start for the B-Mets against LHP Matt Packer. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show will start at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

POSTGAME NOTES: All eight RBI came from the bottom five hitters in the lineup. Danny Muno leads the team with 19 RBI, but Cory Vaughn and Cesar Puello are right behind with 18 RBI.
