LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets stranded the tying run on base in the ninth inning in a 3-1 loss to the Harrisburg Senators last night at Metro Bank Park. Trailing by three in the final frame, the B-Mets got on the board when Cesar Puello homered to left. Following a walk and a hit batsman, pinch-hitter Blake Forsythe struck out againstAaron Barrett to end the game. The Sens packed all their offense into the first, scoring three runs on four hits against Jacob deGromBlake Treinen tossed seven shutout innings in the victory.

BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Erik Goeddel makes his sixth start of the season and first against the Senators. He battled through five innings in a no-decision in his last start against the Erie SeaWolves on April 29. The California native allowed three runs on eight hits in a game the B-Mets won in comeback fashion 4-3. Goeddel won his Double-A debut, but has since gone 0-2 with a 6.62 ERA. The New York Mets selected him in the 24th round of the 2010 draft out of UCLA.

HARRISBURG STARTING PITCHER: RHP Paul Demny gets the ball for the sixth time this season and first time against the B-Mets in 2013. He was tagged for six runs on eight hits over 3.1 innings in a loss against the New Britain Rock Cats in his most recent start on April 29. Since beating the Bowie Baysox in his season debut, Demny has gone 0-3 and compiled a 7.65 ERA. A native of East Bernard, Texas, Demny was picked by the Nationals in the sixth round of the 2008 draft out of Blinn College.

STRUGGLING WITH RISP: The B-Mets went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position last night, including four hitless at bats in the final two innings. Over the last four games they have hit .143 (5-for-35) with runners in scoring position. Overall this season, they have hit just .226 with runners in the scoring position, the second-worst batting average in the Eastern League (Reading: .220).

PUELLO BARELY KEEPS IT ALIVE: B-Mets outfielder Cesar Puello kept his hitting streak alive with a solo homer with two outs in the ninth inning last night. Puello has hit safely in ten straight games, matching Alonzo Harris and Allan Dykstra for the longest by a B-Met this season. Puello has hit .333 (12-for-36) during the streak. It is hit longest hitting streak since he batted .475 during a 15-game stretch with the Savannah Sand Gnats (Low-A) in 2010.

SKID HITS THREE: Binghamton’s loss last night extended their losing streak to a season-worst three games and bumped them back to .500 for the first time in 2013. Binghamton’s longest losing streak last year was a seven-game skid stretching from late June to early July.

PITCHERS SWINGING AWAY: With the B-Mets matched up against another National League-affiliated the team, Binghamton’s pitchers will hit for the first time in 2013.Jacob deGrom went 0-for-2 at the plate, putting the ball in play both times. B-Mets pitchers hit .159 (11-for-69) at the plate last year.

K’S ABOUND FOR LEATHERSICH: B-Mets reliever Jack Leathersich struck out the side in order in a perfect eighth inning last night. He has fanned three or more in six consecutive appearances. In 14.0 innings this year, he has struck out 24 batters. In 98.2 career innings, 61% of his outs have come via the strikeout.

TOUGH TURN THROUGH THE ROTATION: In the last five games, the B-Mets rotation has combined to go 0-3 with a 6.18 ERA. A B-Met starter has not won sinceLogan Verrett tossed eight strong innings against the Akron Aeros on April 27, a six-game drought. In 28 games, the rotation has posted a 4.38 ERA while the bullpen has put together a 3.76 ERA.
