It feels like Matt Harvey versus the world

Its not everyday that a pitcher in the majors has a stat line of:  7 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 4 Ks.......and is analyzed the entire game for 'not having his stuff tonight'.  So goes it for a 24 year old superstar on a poor team.  Instead of praising Harvey for once again giving the Mets a 'quality start', we hear about his lack of velocity, an inning by inning critique (with pictures) showing the location of his arm motion, and the overall reminder that he, unfortunately, pitches for our beloved New York Mets.
It seems as if the entire organization is waiting for this young man to take the mound every 5th day and pitch a complete game shutout. You know things are getting a bit surreal (for lack of a more interesting word), when the analyst for the game comments on Matt Harvey no longer having a no-hitter going after that 2nd inning double by Pedro Alvarez.
I remain baffled by the fact that no other starter in the rotation has an ERA under 4.63 (great job Hefner). Add that to the fact that Matt Harvey this year has 7 'quality starts' (that 8th start he went 5 1/3 innings, 2/3 of an inning from getting it. As opposed to every other Mets pitcher to start a game this year, who total 8 combined.
Coming into last nights start by Harvey, no Mets starter could basically get out of the 5th inning. As it stands, the Johan Santana effect seems to have passed on to our man Harvey. They no longer hit for him.
I watched for 30 minutes during pre game on SNY as the team supposedly pointed out the FLAW in their game of taking a million pitches to try and get the opposing teams starter out of the game (yeah, like they have been hitting any relievers). Only to then sit back and watch as basically everyone, minus David Wright, continue to take, take, take.... (oh, thank you Duda for actually swinging at a 3-1 pitch. Amazing how that works sometimes, huh?)
So what do we end up with. A 2nd year superstar in the making, with 7 quality starts, and only 4 wins. Oh yeah, did we forget that Harvey gave up 1,1,1,and 0 runs respectively in those 4 starts to actually get the wins.
All this talk amongst the organization about what to do about rushing/not rushing Wheeler and Montero. Meanwhile, we have our pre games analysts, and Terry Collins himself, basically calling every Harvey start a holiday, and doing everything but guaranteeing at least 7 innings, and less then 3 runs aloud. But its ok, because everyone in the organization also publicly states that Harvey is 'confident' and can apparently handle anything.
Maybe that is true. You know what else is true? Matt Harvey came out in the first inning against Washington, opposing Steven Strasburg, throwing 99 miles per hour. Great mechanics or not, maybe there is only so much a 'savior' can take.

I hope David Wright is spending some time with Harvey. Wright has been alone in his own class on this team for so long... they could use each other to get through these years.

Well said Ernest...

To me, Wheeler has showed enough. Time to add a potentially dominant player to this shitty team.

do you and I really want to keep this blogging up?

Honestly, Mack, I don't know...

The stuff I've been reading lately seems to be all about stirring the pot, calling for Collins job, or finding ways to say the Ners are unfairly treating Valdespine. Is this what it's come to?

I mean, the talent in this roster sucks. The HAD four good players until Niese and Davis started to regress. Now, it's just Wright and Harvey, so how is that Collins' fault? Yes Terry makes bonehead decisions, but should he be fired because the offense lacks a killer instinct and zero aggression?

Their philosophy is sound, but the players are flawed. It makes all the sense in the world....swing at good pitches, don't swing at bad ones. Problem is, the hitters aren't good enough to incorporate these ideals into their limited set of skills....because they're mostly suited for utility roles and have been thrust into the biggest spotlight in MLB as starters.

The bullpen stinks, SP2-5 stink, and the defense stinks. So, who's fault? Really, nobody right now, because 2013 wasn't supposed to be very competitive. Next season is another story though, they simply won't have any excuse for more failure, especially Alderson and the Wilpons, because so much money is coming off the books( not Bonilla's though, there are murderers that'll spend less time in prison, then the Wilpons will spend kicking themselves in the ass over that contract).

Make no mistake, the Mets desperately need a lot of new players next year, and I believe they'll have the means to do it. I just don't know anymore if Alderson is the right guy to choose them. Even Omar hit big with some if his cheap signings like Tatis and Valentin; heck even Dickey. Sandy, other then the trades, has crashed completely.

Covering this team is like waiting for my Cisco stock to bounce back to the $84/share I bought it for in 2001.

At some point, you have to move on.
