Sunday afternoon Alfredo Simon held the Mets to just 4 hits
and one run over 7 innings as the Reds salvaged the final game of their three
game set with the Mets winning 2-1. Jon Niese came off the disabled list and
made the start. He pitched brilliantly qualming a lot of fears about the
condition of his arm and shoulder. Niese went 5 2/3’s he allowed 6 hits, 2
runs, 2 earned he walked 1 and struck out 4. The only two runs against him came
in the 6th inning when he tired. Joey Votto tied the game at 1 with
a sac fly. Ryan Ludwick gave the Reds a 2-1 lead with an RBI single. Unfortunately
that’s all the Reds needed. Gonzalez Germen relieved Niese and pitched well
going 1 1/3 he walked 1 and struck out 2.
Kyle Farnsworth pitched a scoreless 8th inning and Jose
Valverde pitched a scoreless ninth. It’s now the 2nd day in a row
where the Met bullpen was effective. Simon started for the Reds and was sharp
all day long. He went 7, allowing 4 hits 1 run ,1 earned he walked 1 and stuck
out 6. He picks up the win he’s now 1-0. Niese is 0-1. Offensively for the Mets
Juan Legares continues to impress with an rbi single in the 2nd
driving in Ike Davis. Lagares has now hit in all 6 games. Davis getting the
start went 2 for 4. The Mets finish their first home stand 2-4. Monday is an off day. Tuesday the Mets start
a 9 game road trip with the first of three games in Atlanta. Bartolo Colon (0-1 4.50) goes for the Mets,
former Mets Aaron Harang (1-0 0.00) goes for the Braves.

I'll take two out of three all day....
Next game obviously not a must win, but Colon vs Harang sounds like a favorable matchup to me.
