April 9th 2014 -- Braves 4, Mets 3

Wednesday night Jason Heyward had 3 hits including a lead-off homer against Zach Wheeler. The Braves behind Ervin Santana in his Atlanta debut down the Mets 4-3. Heyward homered to lead off the game for the Braves on pitch 11 of a marathon at bat against Wheeler. In the 5th Wheeler yielded 3 runs on 4 hits as Atlanta took control of the game for good. Santana was dominant in his debut going 8 innings allowing just 3 hits he walked none and struck out 6. Wheeler went 5 he allowed all 4 runs on 8 hits he walked 1 and struck out 6. Jeurys Familia had his best outing of the year pitching the 6th and 7th inning striking out one. John Lannan started the 8th and allowed a hit, Gonzalez Germen came on and retired the side 1-2-3 after that. In the top of the 9th the Mets almost tied the game. Eric Young Jr. walked and David Wright singled against Jordan Walden. Craig Kimbrel came on and with the bases loaded Juan Lagares hit a 2 run single to make it 4-2, then Travis d’Arnaud singled to make it 4-3. Ruben Tejada was allowed to bat for himself with 1st and 3rd and 2 out against Kimbrel and struck out to end the game. Heyward, Andrelton Simmons and Freddie Freeman went a combined 7 for 12 on the night to power the Braves. Legares has now hit in all 8 games this season. Wheeler drops his second on the year he’s now 0-2. Santana gets the W he’s now 1-0. The Mets now stand at 3-5 on the year and 1-1 on the current road trip. Thursday night it’s the finale and rubber game of the series. Jenrry Mejia (1-0 1.50) goes for the Mets, David Hale (0-0 0.00) goes for the Braves.
