Mets Minor League Report: April 14, 2014

MMLR Player of the Day: St. Lucie LF Maikis De La Cruz
I must say that I was tempted to violate my principles and give the award to Chris Young, following up his 5-5, 2HR day yesterday with a 2-2 thus far tonight, giving him 7 straight hits to start his rehab assignment. But it is not to be.

Las Vegas (9-3) beats Fresno (4-8) 5-2

A solid start for Noah Syndergaard. 5.0 IP, 2 R, 5 H, (HR) 2 BB, 5 K.
Joel Carreno pitched a perfect 6th inning, (K) then allowed only a hit and a walk, and another K in the 7th.
Even more important, LHRP Josh Edgin with another scoreless inning.
3rd save for Jeff Walters.

Offensive stats are only through 7 innings.
Chris Young, is human. after a perfect 5-5 last night, went 2-3 tonight in the 2nd game of his rehab assignment, with 2 BB, 2 R, SB.
Allan Dykstra: 1-2, 2 BB, 2 RBI, R.
Matt den Dekker: 2-4, one double, one RBI

Portland (7-4) bombs Binghamton (7-4) 9-4.

Greg Peavy (L, 0-1) pitched well for 5 innings, but got rocked in the 6th: 5.1 IP, 5 R, 2 H, (HR) 4 BB, 7 K.
Adam Kolarek (BS, 1) didn’t fare any better: 1.2 IP, 3 R, 4 H, BB, 2 K.

Matt Clark followed his 5 walk night with a 3-4, HR, 2B, 2 RBI, R.

Starter, Luis Cessa, (L, 0-2) left the game after 5.0 innings, giving his team a chance to win: 2 R, 6 H, 2 BB, 2 K. But the bull pen couldn’t hold up their part of the bargain.
Julian Hilario: 1.0 IP, 5 R, 3 H, (HR) 2 BB.
Bret Mitchell: 0.2 IP, 5 R, 5 H, 2 BB.
Jake Kuebler’s fine relief outing was moot: 2.1 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB, K.

Brandon Nimmo: 2-5.
Aderlin Rogriguez: 2-4, RBI.
T.J. Rivera: 2-3, BB, R.

The minor league bullpen for the most part been bull-dinky (no, not you, Akeel, who is pitching like a man vs. Boys). And I had it wrong when I speculated about Nimmo last year...he has been an on-base machine so far. Great to see.
