Mets Minor League Report: Opening Day, April 3, 2014
MMLR Players of the Day: LV RHP Rafael Montero & St Lucie 1B TJ Rivera
Las Vegas (1-0) pummels Fresno (0-1) 9-2
Rafael Montero (5-4, 3.05 with the 51’s last year) is scheduled to start the opener for Las Vegas, facing Mike Kickham (7-7, 4.31) getting the call in his second year in Fresno.
In the early going, Las Vegas jumps out to an early 2-0 lead in the 5th inning. The bull pen held the lead while the offense rocked.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis is 4-4, HR, RBI, 2 R.Danny Muno: 2-5, R
Eric Campbell: 1-3, BB, 2 RBI, R
Zach Lutz: 2-4, HR, 4 RBI, R
Montero (the Magnificent) pitched 6 scoreless innings: 4 H, 5 K.
Dana Eveland and Joel Carreno combined to give up 2 runs in 1 inning.
Vic Black pitched a hitless 8th. 2 BB, 2 K
Erik Goeddel , in a non save situation, pitched a perfect 9th. K
Binghamton (0-1) falls to Akron (1-0) 7-1
Losing pitcher, Darin Gorski, (L, 0-1) went 3.2 innings (85 pitches) in his first start: 2 R, (1 ER) 4 H, (HR) 3 BB, 2 K
Jack Leathersich did what he does best in an inning of relief, striking out the side, while walking one.Cody Satterwhite (1.1 IP) did not give up a hit or a run, but walked 4 and struck out 2.
The other 2 Mets relievers, T.J. Chism (2.0 IP, 2 R, 2 H, BB, 3 K) and John Church (1.0 IP, 3 R, 2 H, 2 BB, K) did not fare as well.
The Mets offense couldn’t get untracked, mustering only 4 hits, 1 each to CF
Darrell Ceciliani, (a triple) 1B Jayce Boyd, RF Cory Vaughn and 2B Wilfredo Tovar.
St. Lucie (1-0) edges Palm Beach (0-1) 6-5
Starter Starter Gabriel Ynoa (W, 1-0) (5.1 IP, 3 R, (2 ER) 8 H, BB, K) got the win despite not being quite as sharp as he usually is.
Jake Kuebler (0.2 IP) allowed 2 R, (1 earned) 3 H, K.Randy Fontanez tossed 2.0 scoreless innings: 2 H, 2 K.
Beck Wheeler (S, 1) pitched a scoreless 9th , earning the save: H, K.
T.J. Rivera had a whale of a night: 3-4, HR, 2B, 5 RBI, 2 R.Brandon Nimmo got off to a great start: 2-3, 2B, BB, 2 R.
Lakewood (1-0) tops Savannah (0-1) 6-3
Robert Gsellman (L, 0-1) allowed only 2 R (both earned) 10 H, 2 BB, 5 K.
John Mincone (1.0 IP) was rocked for 4 R, (3 ER) 4 H, 2 K, while Tim Peterson (1.2 IP, 2 K) and Darwin Frias (1.0 IP, 2 K) did not give up a hit.
CF Patrick Biondi had a fine night at the plate: 3-4, HR, 3 RBI, R.Ditto SS Gavin Cecchini: 2-5.

An extrabase hit from gavin tommorow and everything is fine!! Its really nice to see all three 1st round guys had hits.
And Iam really think Nimmo will have a heck of a year
