St. Lucie 5 - Jupiter 2

The St. Lucie Mets snapped a four-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Stadium on Wednesday.

The Mets scored three runs in the third, ending what was a 23-inning scoreless drought dating back to Saturday against Palm Beach.

Dilson Herrera led off the frame with a single and Brandon Nimmo followed with a walk. Jairo Perez put the Mets on the board with a single and Aderlin Rodriguez grounded out to plate Nimmo. Cam Maron capped the inning with an RBI double.

That was enough for starter Matt Koch, who scattered eight hits and two runs in six innings. Koch retired eight in a row between the second and fifth innings.

The Mets added to their 3-0 lead in the fifth when Anderlin Rodriguez grounded into a double play but scored Nimmo from third. Ross Wilson put the Hammerheads on the board with a two-out, run-scoring single in the bottom of the inning.

Jupiter sliced their deficit in half in the sixth when Austin Barnes doubled and Viosergy Rosa singled him home with two outs. However, Koch settled down to get Matt Juengel to fly out to end inning and complete his outing.

The Mets got the run back in the seventh on a Dilson Herrara RBI base knock.

Randy Fontanez pitched two scoreless innings of relief, striking out five.

Beck Wheeler walked two batters in the ninth, but he struck out Ryan Goetz on a full count and induced a harmless fly ball to center off the bat of Wilson to end the game.

Trevor Williams suffered the loss. He was tagged for four runs on six hits.

Perez and Herrera collected two hits apiece for the Mets. Nimmo had a hit and walked twice. He has now reached base safely in all six games and has hit safely in five of six.

Matty Koch has a most unusual walks to hits ratio...this hear and last, 88 innings, 108 hits, 4 walks. FOUR WALKS! So hiw WHIP is good, but it seems he can try to get batters to chase more, even if it means a few more walks. Get those hits to lower minors hitters down, because as you move up, it will just get worse.

Time for Aderlin to hit already...he is an enigma.
