Wednesday night at Wrigley Field, Lucas Duda hit his 1st homer of the post season and drove in 5 and Daniel Murphy added 4 hits and another home run, the Mets sweep the Cubs in the NLCS, four games to none with a 8-3 win. The Mets got to work in the top of the first once again. Curtis Granderson singled and after David Wright and Daniel Murphy were retired he stole 2nd. Yoenis Cespedes walked and Lucas Duda then hit a 3 run homer to center to make it 3-0 Mets. The next batter, Travis d’Arnaud hit an opposite field homer, his 2nd of the series and it was 4-0 Mets. In the top of the 2nd, Wright walked. Hammel left in favor of lefty Travis Wood. Daniel Murphy served a line single to left to make it 1st and 2nd. Cespedes struck out looking and Duda, came through again this time with a two run double and it was 6-0 Mets. In the bottom of the 4th the Cubs broke through on Matz. Jorge Soler doubled to right. Kris Bryant walked. Anthony Rizzo singled to center to load the bases. With 2 out Soler scored on a ground out by Kyle Schwarber. In the 5th the Cubs chased Matz. Matz got the first two outs. Then Dexter Fowler reached 1st on a pop that fell between three Mets. Soler singled to make it 1st and 2nd. Matz was replaced by Bartolo Colon who struck out Kris Bryant to end the threat. In the 6th, Wilmer Flores hit a liner to left that Schwarber dove for and went under his glove and to the wall for a triple and was stranded there. In the 7th the Mets loaded the bases with 1 out and failed to cash in. In 8th, history was made, with 2 out Wright walked and Daniel Murphy hit a 2 run homer. His 4th of the series, his 7th of the playoffs and his 6th homer in 6 games an all-time Major League post-season record and it gave the Mets a 8-1 lead. In the 8th against Tyler Clippard, Kris Bryant hit a long 2 run homer to make it 8-3. Murph went 4 for 5 with the homer, double 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Duda went 3 for 4 with the homer, 2 doubles and 5 ribbies. Wilmer Flores went 2 for 3. For the Cubs Soler went 3 for 4. Matz went 4 2/3 allowing 4 hits the 1 run (earned) he walked 2 and struck out 4. Colon pitched a masterful 1 1/3 innings allowing a walk and striking out 1. Addison Reed pitched the 7th inning. Tyler Clippard helmed the 8th and gave up the Bryant homer. Jeurys Familia pitched the 9th to lock down the series and the Mets 1st trip to the World Series since 2000. Matz gets credited with the win. Hammel takes the loss. Game 1 is Tuesday night either in Kansas City or Toronto.

Incredible! I feel like I hit my head and I am in an extended dream sequence......what the hell is going on here? Three months ago, we were talking about needing to make some trades because the offense stunk and if everything went well we could possibly play meaningful games in September! Now we are going to the World Series........if I am dreaming, I hope I don't wake up.
