INJURY UPDATE - P - Rafael Montero
P Rafael Montero has a tear in his UCL and the Mets have decided that he needs TJS surgery.
This will cost him, at least, the 2018 season, but will insure him being paid a full MLB salary for the length of his surgery and rehab.
In my opinion, this leaves the opening needed to include Phillip Evans on the trip north, but we'll see.

I guess that explains Raffie's crappy pitching of late, at least to some degree. Nice consolation prize, though, to get paid at major league levels for the duration for him.
shame - good kid - major skills early on in his career.
I also agree with Evans being promoted. If they need relief help, they can option guys up and down to deal with avoiding over-use in the pen early on.
Also: can Todd Frazier please start hitting?
I'll cut Frazier more slack than A-Gon. He's coming off some solid if unspectacular years. A-Gon is coming off his worst season and has done nothing to show he's got anything left. Frazier's salary dictates he will play full time for the duration but the way Wilmer Flores has been killing it suggests that A-Gon should be (but likely isn't) on a short leash.
Man, just when you thought that Montero's days with the Mets were done, fate finds a way to keep him a Mets player for another year or more. This guy has more lives than a cat.
Maybe he comes back throwing strikes and 95mph? we can dream right?
At 29
Now he'll have fresh start with the Mets in the second half of 2019 or thereabouts - and plenty time to be mentally prepared for the challenge.
A-Gon has until Conforto is activated IMO to get his act together. Then I look at the Nimmo/Legares/Evans/ Gonzolez/Reyes quintet and pick 4. Betting A-Gon is odd-man-out.
May Peterson be in the majors before Montero is ready to return.
Two questions:
1. Can’t collins go motivate Montero to heal quicker?
2. What happens next November when he needs to come off the 60 day and go on the MLB roster?
In November, he can be offered a contract pre-Arbi, or non-tendered,
