Scouting Report - 1B - Daylan Pena

Daylan Pena

1B 6-1 230 Veterans Memorial HS (TX)

7-31-19 -  Prep Baseball Report -

The 6-foot-1, 235-pound Pena put on a strong showing during his defense work and put on a powerful display at the plate during BP as he shot balls out to and over the fence. He is athletic in his frame, showed plus bat speed with some length into contact, and has natural leverage with the intent to lift the ball. Ran a 7.10 60-yard dash and was up to 96 mph on his exit velocity.

Daylan Pena is a 2021 1B/3B/OF with a 6-1 230 lb. frame from Corpus Christi, TX who attends Veterans Memorial. Big and strong athletic build, carries his weight very well, broad shoulders and well proportioned strength. Right handed hitter, loads to his back side well, wrapped barrel start, hands are pretty short to the ball, creates bat speed, mid field to pull side contact, was on time in the games against good pitching and made solid contact. Has solid athletic action at first base, fields the ball out front, quick and short arm action with good arm strength for first base.

Daylan Pena, 1B - I had seen Daylan Pena a little going in but was excited to see more considering the fact I had heard a young Nelson Cruz comp from a scout. He didn’t disappoint here, as the hit and power tools showed up all weekend for Pena. It became easy to see exactly why the scout was as high on him as he was, and Pena has become one of the more intriguing slightly under the radar power bats in the class.
