Tom Brennan - FOUR REASONS FOR THE METS TO SIGN TREVOR BAUER

Priorities, priorities, priorities, priorities.

If you believe the Mets will make the playoffs ( I do) and win the Division (I do) with a greatly revamped team, what are my 4 main reasons for signing Cy Young award winner Trevor Bauer Here goes:

1) Jake deGrom

2) Trevor Bauer

3) Noah Syndergaard

4) Marcus Stroman

Imagine having those 4 guys to start games for the Mets in the playoffs?  They would simply be FEARED.

The Mets' staff in 2015 was FEARED in the playoffs - good enough to win with a little stronger surrounding team.

The Champion Dodgers in 2020 had Kershaw, Buehler and Urias.  Pretty feared

The Nationals won in 2019 with great performances by Scherzer, Strasburg, Sanchez, and (to a lesser degree) Corbin.  Feared.

The Red Sox in 2018 had Price, Sale and Porcello (before he was washed up).  Not overwhelmingly feared, but tough.

The 2017 Astros had Verlander, Keuchel and Morton.  Feared.

The 2016 Cubs had Arrieta, Hendricks, and Lackey.  Feared, pretty much, at the time.

Pitching deep in the playoffs, especially, is essential.

Bauer would make 4 strong for the Mets.

So, for those four reasons:

Get Bauer.  Then order ticker tape.

That's presuming you're getting the Bauer of COVID abbreviated 2020. If anything was learned this past year, it was to fill the bullpen with studs and preclude your SPs from facing the opponent's lineup more than twice. I'd rather trade for Darvish or sign a FA like Mike Minor and pick up 3 to 4 more bullpen studs (Hand, Loup, May & Yates)? Use a stopper in the early innings if necessary when my SP does not have his stuff.

royhobbs7, great point. I absolutely advocate for a big change in the Mets deciding when they have enough bullpen arms. The last 3-4 years, they went with that approach and the bullpen has been abysmal. Your plan is good, but I want Bauer AND your plan for the bullpen too.

For multi-billionaires, caps were made to be broken. So blast thru the salary cap and give us a team that can win in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024....

NO MORE HALF HEARTED EFFORTS

and the '73 Mets had Seaver, Koosman, Matlack, and Stone. If they had used them all, they probably would have won the World Series! Pitching matters!

And, remember 1969, the Mets were outclassed by Cincy and Oakland, and almost won their 2nd World Series in 5 years then. Who knew, in 1973, the next 47 years would produce just one World Series title.

Very true on both accounts. Pitching carried them through the pre-Big REd Machine that year and were up 3-2 in the Series against a fine Oakland team with attitude.

It is time to break that streak. 1986 seems like a long time ago now. My daughter was born the day of the 16 inning game 6 of the Astros series, so it was literally a lifetime ago! :-)

It is very simple..you need pitching..defense and timely hitting and you will always be in the pennant race.
