John From Albany – Mets News and Breakfast Links 11/14/2020

Good Morning. Born Today Jimmy Piersall. Happy Birthday Xavier Nady and Akeel Morris. Tim Tebow still wants to play Baseball, Amed takes down Mets pics and Chris Flexen continues to dominate in the KBO.

Section Links: Mets Links, MLB Links, Asian Baseball, and This Day in Mets History.

Mets Links:

Rising Apple: All Mets photos removed from Amed Rosario’s Instagram account. “While rumors are swirling of a potential Francisco Lindor deal between the Mets and the Cleveland Indians potentially occurring this offseason, the Mets also have two solid internal options in Amed Rosario and Andres Gimenez if they look to stay in-house at the shortstop position.”

MLB.com: Here's each team's top 2021 ROY candidate. For the Mets they say it is LHP Thomas Szapucki.  Of course for the Mariners it is Jarred Kelenic.

SNY.TV: Dom Smith recently spoke to Sandy Alderson, 'fired up' for Steve Cohen: 'He's going to make a splash'. 'You have an owner that wants to come in and he wants to get after it'.

NY Post: Dominic Smith can’t wait to play for Steve Cohen.

Mike’s Mets: Spending Wisely is Cool.  Mike looks at potential GM Candidate Michael Hill as well as the cost of Regional Sports Networks.

Anthony DiComo adds on Mets.com: “Although Tim Tebow is eligible for the Rule 5 Draft for the first time next month, a Mets official said the team has no plans to protect him by putting him on the 40-man roster. That means there is a chance an enterprising club could select him with the intention of carrying him on their big league roster, though multiple industry sources characterized that as unlikely.”

Brian Joura Mets360: David Peterson’s peripherals, Pete Alonso’s September, Mets & Pirates go back-to-back. Lots of good points from Brian as always especially how Peterson had a .340 BABIP while pitching for Binghamton in 2019, he had a .233 BABIP this last year for the Mets.

Faith and Fear in Flushing: Greg Prince looks back at Ed Kranepool in 18 and Life.

Bradford William Davis NY Daily News: Marcus Stroman accepting qualifying offer is loaded with omens for him, the Mets and MLB. “The free agency market is bad. Marcus Stroman would have been no worse than the second best free agent pitching target this winter, behind 2020 NL Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer…Locking in a high salary and trying his luck next year without the draft pick loss attached to players that decline their QO was a rational choice.”

Amazing Avenue: The Mets should extend Marcus Stroman. Stroman would be a very solid second starter for the next few seasons.

Metsmerized Online: The Luxury Marcus Stroman’s Return Brings to Queens.

SNY.TV: Trevor Bauer's agent, Rachel Luba, talks New York fit, was 'happy' to hear Sandy Alderson's comments.

Mets Junkies: Mets Trade Target Carlos Correa.  Writer Gem Tablak projects that the Mets can get Carlos for Mark Vientos and J.T. Ginn.

Rising Apple: Does Arodys Vizcaino have a role in the Mets 2021 bullpen? “From 2015 to 2018, Vizcaino recorded 49 saves and 21 holds for the Braves, pitching to a 2.79 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 180 games with Atlanta. His past success was unfortunately truncated due to a shoulder injury that sidelined him for most of 2019 and all of 2020.”

ESPN.com: Les Rohr, pitched once for Miracle Mets, dies at 74.

Centerfield Maz: Les Rohr: The Only Mets Player To Be Born In England & A Former Number One Pick (1967-1969).

Yahoo Sports: Life of a trailblazer: Why Kim Ng, the first woman hired as an MLB GM, always kept going.

USA Today: As MLB's minor league revamp wraps up, embattled franchises await fate: 'We are waiting and hoping'. A full release of affiliated clubs from MLB could come by the end of this month.

MLB Trade Rumors: Offseason Outlook: New York Yankees.

Asian Baseball:

In the KBO Playoffs, The Doosan Bears beat the KT Wiz 2-0 to advance to the Championship Seris against Aaron Altherr and the NC Dinos (Box Score).

Yonhap News: “Chris Flexen was voted the MVP of the series after making two dominant appearances. In his Game 1 start on Monday, he tossed 7 1/3 innings of two-run ball and struck out 11…Then pitching on three days' rest, Flexen took the mound in the seventh inning in Friday's Game 4, with the Bears nursing a 2-0 lead. He fired three shutout innings for his first KBO save, while striking out two and giving up one hit.”

Yonhap News: Dinos' Altherr not concerned about long layoff ahead of Korean Series. “The Dinos finished first in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) regular season. As a reward, they've earned a bye to the Korean Series, which starts Tuesday.”

Here is KBO’s Scoreboard.

The non-tender earthquake in a few weeks could be a Mets player acquisition bonanza.

Seems like Ronnie, Cohen and Keith are mostly all in on Bauer. So get him.

Flexen - congratulations. It certainly seems he could come back to the states but if baseball is in a low pay period, maybe he decides to stay and pitch a dominant 2021 season in Korea.

Teobow? We’ll see come March and April. Too much else going on to be distracted by that now.

The MLB article that lists each team’s possible top rookie listed one who is likely a Las Vegas favorit for 2021 ROY...Randy Arozarena.

John From Albany said...

Aronzarena has to be the lead candidate after what he did in the post season byt we said the same thing about Greg Jefferies after his 1988 September. So, you never know.
