Tyree Reed
OF 6-2 185 American Canyon HS
Mack's spin -
Reed is one of the many talented outfielders in this draft.
He is, right now, a defense first centerfielder with blazing speed and a power arm.
Bat talent is expected to develop, but he should consider going to college and working on that before playing professional baseball.

Tyree Reed OF American Canyon (Calif.) HS
Ht: 6-2 | Wt: 180 | B-T: L-L
Commit/Drafted: Oregon State
Age At Draft: 18.5
One of the top outfielders in the 2021 class, Reed has plenty of tools and lots of upside, but hasn’t been seen as much this summer as he would in a typical, non-coronavirus year. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Oregon State commit has loads of athleticism and a lean, projectable body. He already has at least three plus tools in his defensive ability, speed and arm strength. Those supplemental plusses should make him an impact defender in center field and a dangerous baserunner, but it’s his offensive upside that makes him one of the top players in the class. Reed has great bat speed and scouts believe he will grow into power very quickly in the future. He starts with an open stance in the box but evens up during his load and fires his hands quickly, with natural loft in the swing. There’s a bit of a hitch in the load and he has a high back elbow, but evaluators don’t seem too concerned about those mechanical quirks and believe he can grow into a true five-tool player.
12-3-20 - Perfect Game combined their picks for the first two rounds in this mock draft -
19. Toronto Blue Jays | Colton Cowser, OF, Sam Houston State | (2/48) Tyree Reed, OF, American Canyon HS
Cowser was the Southland Conference hitter of the year in 2019 and was named to the USA Baseball National team. Although he displays plus athleticism in the outfield, his carrying tool is without a doubt his feel for the barrel. If his power tool shows improvement in 2021, he’ll have the opportunity to go very high in the first round of the draft. Reed has been a well-known name on the national stage for quite a while now with his athleticism and projectable hit tool. His overall talent cannot be ignored and he has the potential to develop into an everyday player in professional baseball with exciting tools. -Connor Spencer
Sakowski’s Take: An interesting pairing here. Connor Spencer touched on what a power surge could do for Cowser’s draft stock, and his present toolset already intrigues in a top half of the first round kind of way. Reed was a bit of an enigma this summer as COVID limited travel, but in underclass looks as well as briefly this fall, he still shows high-end projection for left-handed power along with very good athleticism and a clean stroke.

23. OF Tyree Reed
School: American Canyon HS, CA | Commit: Oregon St | B / T: L / L | Ht: 6’3 | Wt: 197lbs | Age: 18.3
One of the more interesting cases right now with limited showings this summer due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. But Tyree still has that same elite potential and projectability. Working Gap-Gap with a short compact swing that will lead to some power as he fills out his frame, I see him being able to tap 25 and possibly even push 30 HR in some peak seasons.
With his ability to stick in CF as a Plus (60) Defender with him Plus (60) speed he will maintain moving forward, and a Plus-Plus (70) Grade Arm talent to put fear in any runner that wants to challenge him. The skillset is there for a loud Spring to boost his Draft stock back up and see Reed move back near the top of the Class and inside the Top 15 selections.

48. Tyree Reed - OF
Bio:
Height: 6-2
Weight: 181 lbs
Hits/Throws: L-L
Hometown: Vallejo, CA
School: American Canyon
Super, super projectable lean frame with power projection to come. Will stick in centerfield with 70 speed and good instincts and routes to the baseball; a plus defender. Hit projects at least average. Has missed the entire 2020 summer circuit for unknown reasons, though several athletes are not traveling due to COVID. Body and leverage at the plate suggests average power may be in the cards. A little Jason Hayward in the entire package. Could reach similar mid-first-round draft selection with some added weight and impact
15. Tyree Reed, OF, American Canyon (HS)
6-foot-2, 185 pounds. Lean, twitchy frame that oozes projection. Loose bat speed with hands capable of holding upper-level velocity. Power will come as he increases his launch angle and tacks on muscle. Borderline 80-grade wheels paired with natural defensive instincts will keep him in center field moving forward. Left/left prospect with the offensive tools and defensive value to be a first-round pick next June.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a Tyree Reed sighting. Haven't seen the kid play since May. Looks noticeably stronger. Still has the impressive swing from before. No signs of rust. Big weekend for Reed going into WWBA this week. 1st round projection.
Had a scouting supervisor at the event tell me Reed "looked like Jason Heyward up there" and I can't unsee the similarities in the swing.

We have a Tyree Reed sighting. First time seeing him in person, the bat speed is ridiculous. Looks like he hasn't missed a beat, two loud flyouts so far.

Tyree Reed is going to be a monster with 10 more pounds of good weight and a little more core strength. His swing is among the best I've seen in the class. Built for damage. If he makes it to Oregon State (he shouldn't), he's got a 1.1 profile in 2024.
