Good Morning.  Happy Birthday Paul Lo Duca and Tomas Nido. Mets-Marlins game gets suspended due to rain but not before Michael Conforto gets dropped in the lineup.

Mets Links:

As we had on Mack’s Mets, the “game against the Miami Marlins has been suspended due to rain. It will resume as the first game of a separate admission doubleheader on Tuesday, August 31 at 1:10 p.m.”

Tonight's Game: Phillies (6-3) @ Mets (2-3), 7:10 pm

NYM: David Peterson (#23, 25, LHP, 0-1, 13.50)
PHI: Chase Anderson (#57, 33, RHP, 0-1, 3.60)

Mets.com: Over the first 11 days of the season, the Mets have played just five times.

NY Post: Marcus Stroman unhappy Mets game started in rain: ‘Not smart’. “The Mets wasted a start from Marcus Stroman for seven minutes of soaking-wet baseball before their rubber match with the Marlins at Citi Field entered a 2-hour, 10-minute rain delay and was ultimately suspended.

Mike Vaccaro NY Post: Mets turn routine April shower into embarrassing soap opera.

Greg Prince Faith and Fear in Flushing: Another Rainy Day in Flushing Meadows.  Nevertheless, the Mets’ inability on Sunday to properly discern cloudy from clear provides us a pretty good metaphor for the way they’ve conducted their on-field business, especially when at bat…like the gray skies above Flushing, they’re bound to look all right soon enough.”

Talking Mets with Mike Silva: Minor League Baseball is Back. Is It Any Better? “Mike Silva talks about the new minor league baseball setup with Greg Larson, author of the book "Clubbie: A Minor League Baseball Memoir." Greg was a clubhouse attendant in the NY-Penn League shares his thoughts on the new minor league setup, tells us stories about life in a minor league clubhouse, and the pitfalls of trying to make it to the big leagues.”

Rising Apple: Former Mets pitcher Steven Matz has as many wins as his ex-team.

NY Post: Michael Conforto’s nightmarish start leads to Mets lineup demotion. “The Mets’ right fielder, who had hit in the three-hole in each of the first five games of the season, was set to bat sixth Sunday before the series finale against the Marlins at Citi Field was suspended. Dominic Smith replaced Conforto in the No. 3 spot — and could remain there until Conforto snaps out of his funk.

In front of 40,000 fans, the expansion Mets are honored with a ticker-tape parade up lower Broadway. The players, wearing their brand new home uniforms, along with broadcasters and other officials ride in open convertibles, throwing plastic baseballs to the enthusiastic crowd as they drive by.

1986

In a humiliating 9–8 extra-inning loss against the Phillies, the Mets blow a three-run lead in the bottom of the ninth, thanks, in part, to Keith Hernandez's error allowing the leadoff batter to reach base, opening the floodgates to Philadelphia's comeback. Six years, the New York first baseman's Veterans Stadium miscue (albeit placed in the wrong season and different venue) becomes the background of a conspiracy theory detailed in an hour-long Seinfeld episode, The Boyfriend.

2009

A pair of tickets for the Mets home opener at Citi Field, with a face value of $525 apiece, is auctioned off for $7,500 on eBay. The ducats were owned by Bernard Madoff, who is in jail after pleading guilty last month to defrauding investors, including Mets owner Fred Wilpon, in a $65 billion Ponzi scheme.

What asses to start that game and have to call it after 7 pitches. Asses. Risking health, blowing Stroman's turn. Asses. Stroman right to be pissed

My brother in the morning said I sure hope Cohen does not do what the Wilpons used to do - not cancel the game so everyone driving there pays a nonrefundable parking fee.

We both said, "nah, that stuff is over."

Which was wrong - we forgot Stupid Sandy.

But it is partly baseball scheduling stupidity - why have a Thurs game, off on (a beautiful) Friday, then play Sat and Sun? Why not schedule Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and if there is a rain out, perhaps play on the Sunday before heading out of town?

At this rate, Cookie and Thor will miss just 3 starts.

JD Martinez - 3 three homer games. Wow. Where are our sluggers, who seem to have holes in bats?

Tom: Yeah, I've been through that parking scam at least once. You have tickets to the game, so you can't take the chance that they play and you lose your money. So, you go, you pay to park, then stand around for an hour waiting for the cancellation thta you know is coming. Not sure if that is all on the Mets or partly on MLB, which encourages teams to do everything they can to get the game in.

John: to your point yesterday, I do think Guillorme should get more playing time. But, I do think that Villar could be that type of player too. He is someone who once lead the league in steals. It looks like he caught Juan Samuel Disease when he hit 24 homers for Baltimore in 2019. He should try bunting for hits more. Even if he doesn't always succeed, at least put that thought in the oppoition's head. If he's on base, he disrupts the defense.
