Mike Puma NY Post: Miguel Castro turning into unexpected Mets gift. “Miguel Castro, in seven appearances this season, has pitched to a 2.57 ERA.”

Joel Sherman NY Post: One surprising reason for Mets hope has nothing to do with them. “The forecast was for high-end play and a heated division race. Nearly a month into the season, the division is bunched, but the play is … meh.”

Mike Puma NY Post: Pete Alonso’s legs key to his Mets resurgence, “I feel like I am being able to use my legs a little bit more, it’s because I am a little bit more relaxed, and also I am sticking to my game plan and swinging at quality pitches allows me to get in my legs,” Pete Alonso said. “Being in my legs is a product of making quality swing decisions and staying within my zone.

1973

Braves hurler Pat Dobson three-hits the Mets and beats Tom Seaver, who also gives up only three hits, 2-0. The Atlanta Fulton County Stadium contest takes one-hour and 37 minutes to complete, making it the quickest game ever played in Mets history.

2004

At Dodger Stadium, Mike Piazza ties Carlton Fisk for the most career homers by a catcher as he hits Hideo Nomo's sixth-inning pitch into the stands for his 351st round-tripper as a backstop. The homer, which was his 362nd overall, moves the Mets' star past Yankees' Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio on the all-time list.

2010

David Wright, with an RBI single to right field off Ramon Troncoso in the fifth inning of New York's 10-5 victory over L.A. at Citi Field, becomes the eighth and quickest player to accumulate 1,000 hits in a Mets uniform. The 27 year-old third baseman, who surpasses Mike Piazza's mark of 935 games to reach the milestone, accomplishes the feat in his 868th career contest with the club.

2010

The suddenly streaking Mets win their sixth consecutive game with a doubleheader sweep of the Dodgers, 4-0 and 10-5. The victories mark the first time since August 28, 1971 that the club has taken both ends of a twin bill from L.A.

2012

Mets left fielder Scott Hairston became the tenth player in franchise history to hit for the cycle with his sixth inning double, plating Rueben Tejada and David Wright. The outfielder's four hits, which drive in four runs, aren't enough when Colorado routs New York, scoring 11 times in the fifth, in the Coors Field's contest, 18-9.

2010: The Mets sweep the Dodgers in a doubleheader, 4 - 0 and 10 - 5, to extend their winning streak to 6 games and to record their 8th win in their last 9 games. Jason Bay hits his first home run as a Met in support of Johan Santana's pitching in the opener, while David Wright drives in four runs in the nitecap.

2012 The Rockies reverse a 6 - 2 deficit with an 11-run 5th-inning outburst against the Mets, then pull out with an 18 - 9 win at Coors Field. Eric Young starts the ball rolling by beating P Chris Schwinden's throw on a comebacker to the mound; 3 walks, 7 hits, 4 errors and a hit batsman later, the Rockies are cruising to an easy win; Carlos Gonzalez drives in 5 runs during the frame, then Ramon Hernandez adds a grand slam in the 7th. For the Mets, Scott Hairston hits for the cycle in a losing cause, while the two teams combine for 36 hits in the slugfest.

Mack’s Blast From The Past April 27, 2014.  Reese Kaplan - Dwelling in Anonymity: Hidden Gems in Las Vegas.  Among others Reese notes: By now any die hard Mets fan is well aware of the exploits of, Jacob deGrom, clearly the 51s’ ace thus far while posting a 2-0 record in 4 starts with a tiny 1.57 ERA and a WHIP of less than 1 baserunner per inning pitched.

Odorizzi to IL. No wonder the Mets didn’t like him.

I like Wheeler. Can we have him back?

Good for Harvey.

Ohtani remains a freak. So does Randy Arozarena.

So does Trout...426/.539/.820. Conforto is .214/.333/.339 by comparison. No comparison.

Let’s say Conforto has a bad year for him. Do you re-sign him at all? Do you be glad you can get him at a low rate? Does he want a pillow one year deal? How should the Mets handle it?

I would sign him because I believe in him. But, the DH is not a given and if it is, they might vote that the DH leaves when the starting pitcher leaves and so you can’t depend on it.

I think I’d let Stroman go.

Gus - I think the deals need to make sense whoever is kept. I would prioritize Pitching but would you give $100M plus to either Stroman or Thor? I am not sure about that. Also, would you give Conforto $150M+? Not me.

Let's see how the season goes and see what they want when Free Agency hits. I think each will find at least crazy team ready to over pay. The Mets will have to decide if they want to as well.

John, this continues a thought we had a month back about The Core of the Mets. I believe Syndergaard is a Tier 1 player - along with Lindor ans DeGrom - and would go over the $100M for Thor say 6/$150. I put Stroman, Conforto, Nimmo, and McNeal in Tier 2. I put Smith, Alonso, Davis, Lugo, and Diaz in Tier 3. Also, I’d really want to see Lugo as a starter.

The Tier 2 guys I’d look for a good deal on. The Tier 3 guys I’d shop to see if I could find a Tier 2 guy for, say Suarez from Cincinnati to fix my third base problem or find another Corrasco opportunity. Like say Smith for Suarez or Alonso for Marquez from Colorado.
