Mack's Mock Pick - #87 - SS - Ryan Bliss

Ryan Bliss

Bat first shortstop that projects to second at the next level.

Spray hitter but remarkable pop for a small guy.

I have him as the 14th SS on my board.

2B/SS          5-9         165         Auburn

2021 stat line, as of 4-28:  35-G, 147-AB, .354, 9-HR

83. 2B/SS Ryan Bliss | School: LSU | B / T: R / R | Ht: 6’0 | Wt: 180lbs | Age: 21.10

Bliss goes a bit overlooked due to his size, but don’t let that fool you, this dude can swing the bat. A Hit over Power profile, but one that constantly is finding hard contact and has some sneaky pull side power that should tap 10+ HR due to the pure hitability. An Above-average Hit tool with god bat speed and ability to use the whole field. May fit best defensively at 2B moving forward

Ryan Bliss

Auburn SS

Ht: 5-9 | Wt: 165 | B-T: R-R

Commit/Drafted: Red Sox 2018 (30)

Age At Draft: 21.6

An undersized, 5-foot-9, 165-pound middle infielder, Bliss stood out as a high schooler for his fantastic hands, footwork and bat-to-ball skills. Teams opted to let him get to school in part because of concerns with his offensive upside, but he was the sole Auburn player to start every game in 2019 and managed a .281/.367/.369 batting line to go with 11 doubles and 11 stolen bases. Bliss was off to an even better start in 2020, hitting .377/.412/.597 with better extra-base pop and as many walks (five) as strikeouts (five). A shortstop in college, scouts think he will wind up as a second baseman at the next level thanks to fringy arm strength dating back to his prep days. He has the hands for the position and can turn a quick double play. Offensively, he has impressive bat-to-ball skills, but very little power now, with a body that doesn’t look like he’ll add much juice in the future. An above-average runner who can also add value with his speed, Bliss does about everything well except hit for impact.
