A couple of big offensive showings including 10 hits against Bob Gibson, Sweet Music from Frank Viola and Craig Swan starts a game, pitches to just one batter, and loses. These are just some of the games the Mets have played on April 26th.

This was the only ever appearance as a Met for Brett Hinchliffe who the Mets had signed as a minor league free agent over the winter of 2000. Brett gave up single runs in the 1st and 2nd before the damn broke in the 3rd as the Brewers scored 7 runs with Brett not getting an out including a Grand Slam to Tyler Houston. His final line - 2 innings, 9 hits, 2 HRs, 1 walk, 8 runs – all earned for a 36.00 ERA. Mike Piazza hit 2 HRs, Desi Relaford and Edgardo Alfonzo one each for the Mets.

Mets lose a double dip in Montreal. Game 1, Expos jump all over Pat Zachry and Pete Falcone on HRs by Ellis Valentine and Gary Carter to make a winner of Ex-Met Ray Burris who goes the distance for the win.
Game 2: Craig Swan becomes the 1st Mets starter to leave a game after pitching to just one batter.
ESPN.com: “After Montreal Expos outfielder Tim Raines reached base at Olympic Stadium in Game 2 of a doubleheader, catcher Ron Hodges hit Swan in the shoulder trying to throw out Raines attempting to steal, forcing the pitcher from the game.”
Tom Hausman allowed Tim Raines to score after relieving Swan, giving Craig the loss. The Game is close at 3-2 until Jeff Reardon gives up a HR to Jerry Manual and then allows an additional run. Dave Kingman hits a 2 run HR in the 9th to make the score 7-6 but that is where it ends.

The Strengths This Early On
1 The Taijuan Walker addition.
This is beginning to look like a really strong off season acquisition for the NY Mets. Knew it could be. Taijuan is close to being ready as a two starter. Just needs innings more to be.
2. Brando Nimmo.
Only he and JD Davis (as starting players) are currently hitting over a .300 BA on the entire team. Brandon is playing a very respectable CF, and leads off well for this team. I see All Star status possible for him in 2021.
3. Jake deGrom.
What can you say? Mr. All Star. Comes into start games and wins almost every single time out there. Evidently, lives for the after game high fives. Outstanding concentration. Maybe our best starter ever in the orange and blue. And Jake ain't nowhere done yet either.
4. James McCann.
Just a big solid catcher with sound offensive and defensive talent that this team needed the most behind their dish. James can hit you 18-20 HR's per season and hit around a .275 batting average as well. Couldn't have found a better catcher choice this off season.
4. Marcus Stroman.
Smart starter with deceptive pitches, and very quick delivery mechanics. "El Smoothie." Makes the most of his pitches.
5. Peter Alonso.
The "Solar Polar Bear" is waking up. So look out you bleacher seat people. Getting a top put on your beer cup (maybe even a sippy cup, who knows) does make very good sense now. Bombs away!
6. Dominic Smith.
This will prove to be Dom's "Breakout Season" I believe. He has that kind of ability and power game about him. Excellent player who gives you great at bats and clutch hitting. Fan favorite type of a player and a damn good guy that this world could really use right now.
7. JD Davis.
Despite being the NY Sports Writers chosen whippin' boy (which only motivates a player like JD even more) his future here is nothing but total upside. All you have to do is look at yesterdays game and you too will see what I see. It's obvious. Staying the course with JD.
8. Mets Bull Pen.
It's got some really good arms there especially with the additions of Castro and Loup, plus others too. Edwin Diaz is also on my All Star list of Mets possibilities for 2021. I am so exceedingly glad that the NY Mets brass kept him onboard here.
We See You In There!
1. Jeff McNeil.
This is Jeff McNeil people. He still is the same "Mr. I Give 200%" even going to the bathroom. But who is this body snatcher taking his place of current? All I can say to you is this, "Jeff ain't dead and he ALWAYS comes through any slight troubled times just fine. He is that kind of a really talented player and pro. Jeff is the prototypical fighter type of mentality, and a fan favorite here as well." Hang in there with Jeff because he will get this all sorted out. And then his current body snatcher (peapod) guy will be long, long gone too. Have some faith people. Even the great ones go through slow starts. Ask Derek Jetes!
2. Michael Conforto. He is designating his own body snatcher peapod to a complete exile right now. Began yesterday. Maybe it was the contract uncertainty of tomorrow with Michael? Maybe it was his still being angry about his teammates ripping off his jersey in 2020? Whatever. But yesterday began his restart to 2021, and it is looking very good from here with Michael. However, I was recently told that he got some suspenders added onto his uniform so that his teammates cannot rip off his Mets jersey (again) after he hits a grand slammer to win games.
Lots of good points Anonymous. As far as Conforto, he had COVID right before Spring Training. It takes time to build up strength from that. That impacted his Spring Training routine and possibly is still impacting him. It may be a few weeks before he is back to normal.
