BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies are proud to announce that RHP Cole Gordon has been named the MiLB Pitcher of the Month Award winner in the Northeast League for the month of August.
Gordon was 4-0 and did not allow an earned run in 26.0 innings over four starts. He held opponents to a .096 batting average, allowing eight hits while striking out 30. He currently has a 31-inning scoreless streak over his last five starts dating back to July 31. Gordon did not allow more than three hits in each of his last four starts and went seven innings in three of them.
Gordon, 25, was selected by the Mets in the 32nd round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Mississippi State.
The righthander was already named MiLB Pitcher of the Week earlier this season for the week of Aug 2-8. In addition to Gordon, the Rumble Ponies have had four other players receive MiLB weekly recognition (Mark Vientos, Josh Walker, Jake Mangum, Jose Butto) but Gordon is the first to receive the monthly honor.
The Rumble Ponies will be back at Mirabito Stadium for their final homestand of the year September 14th through 19th against the Reading Fightin' Phils. For tickets to all remaining home games visit www.BINGRP.com, call (607)-722-3866, or visit the Visions Federal Credit Union Starting Gate Box Office at Mirabito Stadium.

Saw Gordon pitch two weeks ago. He pitches backward (breaking balls first - fastballs second). Lots of off speed - fastballs only 90-91. Throws mostly 78-88 pitches. Similar to Bartolo, he only throws fastballs up and in.
In addition after a long inning where Binghamton scored a bunch - his fastball only topped at 88 to start the next inning - later in the inning it was back up to 91 or so.
The minor league pitching coaches have worked hard on getting guys without high velo to pitch well - Gordon, Lasko, and Walker.
