Merry Christmas to all of our readers and Mets fans!
Last season seemed like a lump of coal in the stocking with Edwin Diaz’ injury, a dismal fourth place finish, a $101M luxury tax bill, and then having to watch players in the World Series that were on our club earlier in the year. We certainly deserved better than that but the team played hard and Steve Cohen did many of the right things to build this franchise into a future contender. That earned the team a spot on Santa’s “nice” list this year, so we are eagerly looking forward to a season of over achievement in 2024.
Along those lines, I have some Christmas wishes for the Mets:
1. I wish for the Mets to find some diamonds in the rough that will become solid starting pitchers to fill out a rotation behind Kodai Senga and Jose Quintana. Maybe it is Adrian Houser, Joey Lucchesi, or any one of the prospects that performed well in the minors – if any one of them steps up it will be a gift to a struggling starting staff.
2. I wish for the Mets to secure a DH that will bring honor to the term “hitter”. In recent years, the term “designated” has been the operative word in DH…as in Designated For Assignment.
3. I wish for the Mets to have the luck of the Irish in all contests against the Los Angeles Dodgers this season. The Dodgers may have spent billions to acquire all the top free agents this offseason, but that doesn’t always translate to ‘unbeatable’ on the diamond. The Mets and their former $43M pitchers can attest to that. So this year, may all the bounces go the Mets’ way for a sweep of the billionaires.
4. I wish health and success to all of the Mets’ stellar prospects, so they may reach their potential and create a pipeline of talent that builds a winner from within.
5. I wish a nice, healthy (but affordable) extension to Pete Alonso so he can play out his years in a Mets uniform setting all sorts of power records along the way. A White Christmas is the perfect time to reward the Polar Bear!
6. And finally, the Mack’s Mets staff wishes health and happiness upon all Mets fans! They have lived through so many disappointments but still remain loyal to the Orange & Blue. Let’s go Mets!

Staying home today

Beef tenderloin and watching The Last Kingdom... my heathen ancestors
A Merry Christmas to all. Having three couples over to celebrate today. After they leave, I'll watch the Giants lose to Philly
Glasgow Margot or Houser,Taylor? Don’t be surprised if our guys aren’t better.Merry Christmas!
Oh come on RD no TD magic today have some faith. Off topic but i'm really getting tired of my Jets/Giants being so bad your rooting for them to lose their last few games every year for draft position kinda sucks. OK on to our Mets and just hoping this year almost has to be better than last year but Mauricio's injury wasn't a good start but this is the time of year for HOPE as we need alot it. LGM! and the best of all to everyone.
Ray, I didn't know San Fran is playing the Phillies today.
Let's hope Wilmer hits for the cycle.
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you all have the kind of day you hope for.
Fine analysis, Paul! My only disagreement is re: Pete. I still maintain that there's no rush to extend him. If he rebounds from his .217 season and shows that it was an outlier instead of a piece of the slippery slope, we can outbid anyone else at season's end.
If the slide continues, make the QO. He can accept it and get another season to prove himself, or walk and get us a draft pick.
To me, it's a win/win/win situation.
Those draft bigs can be big, bill. Who knows maybe a starter.
