Tom Brennan: Mark Vientos, Super Duper Star

Mark hit a walk off, and the team walked off with his jersey.

So, this young man named Vientos hits # 23 early, a 2 run shot, and then, in the 10th, at the end of a lengthy at-bat battle, he turned on a tough inside fastball and launched it into the clear, crisp night, setting off peels of delirium and, I might add, bliss and joy. And has his shirt ripped off.

24 HRs in 91 games, and 62 RBIs, for that young man. He is a….

SUPERSTAR.

Sean Manaea was great again, except for 2 bad pitches, both of which were 2 run HRs. 3 total hits allowed.

8th straight Mets win. Still tied for the Wild Card with the Bravados. Arizona lost (yippee), but Philly won (again, dang it).

The Mets (53-29 in their last 82 games) could easily pass Arizona and Atlanta in the WC race.

LUCKIEST MAN IN THE WORLD?

Joander Suarez is that man.

He got lit up like a light bulb. After pitching his 5th inning, he sat down with Syracuse trailing 8-0. A sure loser, right? Nope.  In bottom 5, Syracuse plates 9 runs to take a 9-8 lead so Suarez was the pitcher on the winning side. Syracuse wins 11-8, and Suarez wins. WHAT?!!

The pen threw 4 hitless innings to show Joander how it is really done.

For-the third time in about 10 days, Drew Gilbert went 1 for 5, where the one hit in each game was a 3 run shot. Sounds like some sort of record to me. Luke Ritter added 2 RBIs (86), and Cortes had 3 hits and the hot Acuna Matata and JT Schwartz each had 2 hits, also.

Jack Wenninger was the best pitcher of the day, throwing 6 innings, allowing 1 hit and fanning 10 for the Cyclones.  Earlier this year, he did the same thing. The 2023 sixth rounder has fanned 140 in 115 innings.

But his opposing pitcher, Susana who, despite the name Susana identifies as a baseball player, fanned 10 Clones in 5 innings.

There were 27 Ks in the game…the hitters need to be reminded this is a contact sport. “See ball, at least occasionally hit ball.”

The DeLos Santos Derby continues, with both Brooklynites  of that name having hits and getting their averages up to .192 and .191, respectively. Which of the two will have De Los Santos bragging rights, and will either reach the Mendoza line? Only time will tell.

Binghamton lost 9-3, after leading 3-2 into the 8th, and fanned 15 times.

In his last 4 games, Jett Williams is 1-18 with 13 strikeouts. Dr. Evil says, “He’s lost his Mojo!”

Nolan McLean threw 5 innings of one run ball, but got the ND in the loss.

TJ Shook lost, and he’s all shook up, uh huh.

St Lucie had no need of a nail clipper, as they lost a 3-2 nail biter to fall to 44-83.

They were overheard saying they could whoop the White Sox.

But we all could, right?

The White Sox’ 1 game win streak was snapped, as they fell to 32-110.

Still don't get the Jett how is he always rated our top prospect??? Gilbert could be our Kyle Schwarber as in 7 HRs in 15 games sounds good for a DH. call him up to be our 24' version of Cespedes why not.

Gary, i like the power from Gilbert, but he is hitting in the .180s. Why not Luke Ritter, if McNeil turns out to be injured (hope he isn't). He came out last night.

Potential GG CFer

Wennington could be the next sneaky good starter

Also dancing at the Tanner Witt debut

Yes, I agree. An excellent debut for Witt. Hopefully a draft steal.

Mack, Gilbert HAS to play fall ball. That would give him about 14 more AAA games and 20+ Az games. 35 more games could allow him to show who he really is. Mets need to know if he is a real candidate to break camp with the NY Mets in 2025 as a 5th OF. My guessis he will need half a season in AAA in 2025.

McNeil.out for the season

Check Syracuse lineup tonight to see.who sits

Wouldn't Luke Ritter for power off the bench be our best choice? It would require a 40 man roster slot wouldn't it?

Acuna not in lineup

Sounds good.

Odd but true. Starling Marte got a broken bone from a pitch exactly 2 years to the day prior to Jeff McNeil getting a broken bone in his arm with a pitch. Bizarre.
