Are We 100% Sure Ronald Is Better Than Luisangel? Are We?
What?
Offensively struggling Mets...win 10-1?
LA Acuna 3 for 4, 3 runs, 2 RBIs? 414 foot HR? His one out a line out?
"Little Lindor"?
Pete - 5 RBIs?
Alvarez hits a bomb, at 110 MPH?
Iglesias 3 hits, batting THREE THIRTY??
"Ace Megill", 0 earned runs in 6 innings? Blackburn? Blessing in disguise?
The Braves lose, too?
Mets are 2 games up on the Braves.
Sweet? Yes, indeed.
D Backs: lose. Mets now are tied with them.
Sweet? Yes indeed.
San Diego: lose. Mets now trail them by 2.5 games.
Sweet? Yes indeed.
But Phillies win. Only a major miracle will allow Mets to catch them.
But, the Wild Card race?
We’re in heaven.
One soggy note:
A lot of times at this time of year, when a series concludes, they make it a day game. But today, it is a 7:10 night game start. Weather forecast is for cloudy all day, until around 7 PM, when rain is expected. Can Rich Hoffman of News 12 do something here with this weather forecast?
On a sad note:
JD Martinez sadly has morphed into dreadful JD Davis.
Martinez is 0 for his last 23, and hitting .179 in his last 30 games.
My humble request: Please become JD Martinez again. Starting today.
By the way, happy belated 37th birthday wishes, JD. My bad.
I can hear Ray Savage now, saying, "I told you so about this guy."
I want to go on record to reply to Ray. "It is not over until the fat lady sings." (Can you still use the term fat lady?) I fully expect JD Martinez to deliver the game-winning hit that gives the Mets the World Series crown.
JD Davis' 2024 season meanwhile has been so bad, he dreams about Frank Sinatra singing, "And now, the end is near....". In 258 major/minor ABs, a preposterously scant 14 RBIs. And under .200. Pitcher Tony Cloninger once had 9 RBIs in one game. Speaking of pitching, JD did pitch well in 2017/18, perhaps he should try that again.
P.S. White Sox 3 game win streak ends with a 5-0 loss. Now 36-116.
MINORS EFFICIENCY
Syracuse won 15-7. Just 9 hits needed and only 3 LOB.
S-Mets' veteran bats did most of the damage.
Williams and Gilbert combined for just 1 for 7, a sac fly and 2 RBIs.
Schwartz hit a 3 run bomb, his 4th HR as an S-Met.
Orze wins in relief - now 6-1. Mr. Brennan prefers 6-1 to 1-6.
Vasil started and was raked for 6 runs and 8 hits in 4 innings. 6.16 ERA.
- In 203 AAA innings in 2023 and 2024, Vasil has surrendered 140 runs.
- Trade him to the White Sox? They need young pitching.
BIRTHDAY WISHES
Brandon Sproat turned 24 on Tuesday. My birthday wishes are that he not only pitches for the Mets in 2025, as a 24 year old, but is a starter by early in the season. Hey, if Dwight Gooden could start in the majors at age 19, Sproat can do so also at age 24.

Your last point about Sproat hits me ...
24 to me is old...
Talented players should be in the majors by 22... We have gone on and babied these players.
Reyes showed at 19, Soto Same thing.
the need for AAA seasoning to me is well over blown.
They are human... What 23/24 year old anybody want to languish to be told when someone else thinks they are ready when they see Churios at 20 years old already with a 80 million dollar contract in hand.
Let these guys learn IN THE MAJORS...
Ray may say I TOLD YOU SO about JD but I said the same about Acuña.
Assuming Lindor comes back, when he does, move Iglesias to third, Acuña to second, and replace JD with Vientos
Who was it that said Acuna "hits like a girl"? Not last night!
Eddie, I agreed - until Sproat struggled in AAA. They actually drafted him in the 3rd round in 2022 and he chose not to sign. Not sure why. Not sure why he wasn't better sooner, But I also agree, next season, he should be a Mets starter beginning early in 2025. Gooden also struggled a bit in his rookie year over a few starts; get past the adjustment and let it rip. Chris Scott got called up very quickly in 2024 to start. No reason Sproat can't do the same. In fact, Sproat SHOULD do the same. 2-4 starts in early 2025 in AAA, while there are MLB days off in April. Then add him to the rotation. Mack will remind you that Sproat may occasionally hit triple digits, but he is no Paul Skenes. Skenes is a freak.
That is a plan. JD would be a very valuable pinch hitter, and unfortunately, his high strikeout levels tell a tale.
Paul that was some game. I did see after the game an interview with Steve Gelb, Acuna's interpreter, and Acuna. He is listed at 5'8", but he honestly looks 5'5". That makes me want to think about trading him in the off season. We already have 5'6" Jett and 5'9" Gilbert. I wonder how many average or above average starting hitters there are in the majors who are below 5'10"? No doubt it is few in number. It seems like teams with all of those 3 will inevitably come up short, if the goal is to make the playoffs frequently.
Let Luis be the "Angel" we need to take us to the promised land! Hell of a game last night and don't pinch me I don't want to wake up and the pitching maybe it's the pitching lab right? Son of a pitch it's working!
Oh
BTW
RIP JD
Souther, that is
Tom Altuve is 5' 6" and 165lbs and headed to the HOF lets use that as a comp.
Tom
There is no Jett or Gilbert yet
Gilbert could go all gin and Jett could be lost at sea
Acuña is here. Now.
By the way also Wee Willie Keeler 5'4" Freddie Patek 5'5" Rabbit Maranville 5'5" Hack Wilson 5'6" Phil Ruzzuto5'6" Joe Sewel 5'6" and Joe Morgan was 5'7" just to name a few so LETS JUST KEEP LAACUNA!
One more thing I love players that have something to prove and his bloodline ain't bad either
Gary, I hope Acuna goes to the Hall of Fame as a Met. But the size of baseball hitters now versus 100, or even 50 years, ago, when HRs were far less frequent, made that gap in height not as impactful. Nowadays, I am just very nervous about the lack of height. Altuve a notable exception, even Mookie Betts not that big, but without analysis, I am betting few impactful sub-5'10" players exist. Most of the impactful ones have to be 5'11" to 6'4".
I never knew that "Lonely" song's singer. JD Souther. Hard to picture how time flies.
Knew him well
Partied with him in suite at The Plaza with Richie Furay (Poco) and Chris Hillman (The Byrds)
Introduced my best friend to his future wife at that party
Sad times in my house this morning
That was me Paul, Glad Acuna found power.
We lost another good. I always think of his song " Jesus in 3/4 time" when I think of him. He co-wrote several good ones for other singers that were major hits as well.
Phil Ruzzuto? Oh, wow. Ruzzuto sucked.
Rizzuto was strong because he ate lots of holy cow. And risotto.
Mack, very sad when those you Inogen and have great memories of pass on.
Flunked out of my high school
It's "the plus sized lady" sings. No more comments from me about JD. On my way back from NY.
