8. New York Mets
Drew Gilbert and Ryan Clifford are
in the Top 100 and both came from Houston courtesy of the Justin Verlander
trade last year. Carson Benge isn’t in the Top
100 … yet, but the 2024 first-rounder out of Oklahoma State could land on the
list in the future if he performs well. The Mets have seven outfielders on
their Top 30.

Hopefully Benge will be the best of the 3.
Great! Three guys with huge potential.
I am also hoping Benge is a stud
But we need all 3 to provide value on the roster or as featured traded pieces
Jett Williams not considered here as an Of prospect, though he does play some out there. Also, Morabito may well find himself on lists like this next season. But really, looking at the Mets farm system as the season winds down, it’s no surprise that Stearns just let a significant number of scouts and scouting directors go.
Also, as far as calling Stewart up for McNeil… they clearly don’t believe that Acuña is ready (fair enough) and, while they don’t really need another OF, Stewart was the only other healthy bat on the 40. The reason they don’t add someone (like Ritter) to the 40 is that they only have one move (putting Baty on the 60-day) that would make the new add playoff eligible, and right now, there are only two catchers (Alvarez and Torrens) on the 40. They’re going to need one playoff eligible Cather as insurance heading into the playoffs. So, unless someone else gets hurt and can go to the 60-day IL, Baty’s 40-man spot will ultimately go to either Allen or Porter.
Truth
Stewart has nine lives
Beautiful analysis on the 40 man roster Adam! Thank you! Perfect reasoning.
