The 86-69 Mets won a must-have game against the Phillies Saturday, as they try to fend off the Georgia Bravados.
The Mets are 62-34 in their last 96 doggone games. 7 tough ones to go.
Heroes?
Manaea was great again. In his last 15 starts, 7-2, 2.95, 0.87 WHIP - and length into games. He is the anti-Samson...cuts his hair, becomes a beast with eye-opening stuff.
He dominated Philly bats.
Meanwhile:
Acuna HR and double.
Best offensive debut by a Mets rookie ever?
Alvarez? He is that bear in the cave. Hibernation time ended several days ago, and he is absolutely voracious. His 114 MPH HR yesterday was registered as a lethal laser by the DOD.
Iglesias is having perhaps the most remarkable year in Mets history. Sent to the minors to start the season, they called him up, hoped he hit above his weight, and instead, he has hit well above Butterbean's weight, at nearly .340.
Pete 3 bases on balls and a walk. Fighting.
Edwin in shut down beast mode.
Only Vientos is concerning - 5 times up, 5 Ks. He's gotta shake it, since Lindor won't return until (maybe) Tuesday.
Now the "easy part" comes.
Wheeler and Sale (1-2 in the Cy Young race) in the next two games.
Oh, boy. Those two are 34-9, 2.40 ERA, 430 Ks. Koufax and Gibson.
Last night, though, no one flinched.
Atlanta won over the meek Marlenes, SDP beat the 36-119 White Sox, and AZ waxed the flat-beer Brewers 5-0.
The race is on. May the Mets Man win.
SYRACUSE SIZZLES:
The S-Mets threw Touki (pronounced Sucky) Toussaint a retirement party - his career is toast.
8 early runs off the wild and ineffective Sucky one.
10-3 win.
Senga got his 15 pitch inning in, and looked ready, if not stretched. Danny Young's days with the Mets appear numbered after getting slaughtered of late, but it could be Alex Young, instead. I would think the Mets will try to get Senga 2 lengthening outings this week with the Mets, so that if they do make the playoffs, he is ready to meaningfully contribute.
Blade Tidwell hade his season finale a highly encouraging one.
It is, after all, how you finish.
"He got his Seaver on."
Six relief innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, no walks, 10 Ks, a terrific 55 of 78 pitches for strikes, improving his dismal AAA record to 1-9.
Finally, this week has been the Jett and Drew Show.
Jett was 2 for 4 and a walk, Gilbert 1 for 3 and 2 walks. Gilbert went deep yet again (10). They combined for 5 runs, 3 RBIs.
Last 5 games for Jett, 8 hits and 6 walks.
Gilbert last 2 games, 4 hits, 2 walks, 8 RBIs.
I don't want to sound weird here, but should the Mets consider calling up Jett Williams to replace Eddie Alvarez?
Getting on base 14 times in 5 AAA games says something, doesn't it?.
You tell me what it says.

All goooood! Now we just have to beat Koufax and Drysdale no problem right. Fate is with us because how else do you explain Iglesias Acuna and Alvy and frankly the whole starting staff its just crazy.
Baty at 2B 2day.for Syracuse
The AL Batting leader (Witt) is hitting .334.
The NL leader (Arraez) is at .317.
Iglesias is at .340!!
Iggy rocks.
Have to love what Tidwell showed. He needed that and we needed that.
Tom I'm just waiting for Iggy "rocks" to go on sale at Citi with "OMG" written on them. Another cash cow for Mr. Cohen which he can use for the Soto fund. Now we need Mr. Softee to actually pitch for us and then free cones to all! Oh wait if he pitches in relief does he still only pitch once a week?
Mr. Jett maybe got refueled and love Gilberts power stay tuned
Oh nooooo. Mr. Senga AKA Mr.Softee is down again with tricep soreness dam another boo boo.
Gary, I will opine on him tomorrow
Gus, all's well that Tidwell. In 2025, he starts at 0-0, 0,00.
Tied for last
