Clay Holmes gave the Mets 4.2 solid innings in Miami — 2 runs, 6 hits, 6 strikeouts.
He used six pitches effectively, with his sweeper standing out: 115 proStuff+ and a 33.3% whiff rate.
Not
dominant, but the movement profile continues to impress.

Clay Holmes navigated around a few tough situations to return a solid start for the
Mets today
His
command was sharper and his stuff looked crisper compared to his debut. He
continues to struggle generating whiffs, but his increased kick changeup usage
is encouraging!

Interesting.outing.
In one sense, there was positive news here. Overall, this was a better outing than the first one, but he needs to build on his creativity and control.
On another since, there wasn't. He’s now 2-2 in not going five innings. This has to immediately improve on a team that seems to only one 🔥 hitter at the time.
It's funny. Put an outing like this out there on a team that scores 6-7+ runs and we would be naming Holmes as the new Christy Mathewson (remember him, kids?)

Mack and I remember Christy when he first came up.
I'm a lot older than Mack, and I never saw Christy pitch. He died (only 45 years old) 15 years before I was born
And WAY before TV existed.
Anyone alive who saw him would be well over 100 now. Do you fit that description? 😆
