2025 Draft - Mets Pick 16.493 - RHP - Zack Mack - Loyola Marymount

Zack Mack is a right-handed pitcher from Loyola Marymount University (LMU), selected by the New York Mets in the 16th round (493rd overall) of the 2025 MLB Draft on July 14, 2025. A junior from Houston, Texas, Mack stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs 240 pounds, offering a projectable frame with significant arm strength. He transferred to LMU for the 2025 season after two years at San Jacinto College, where he was a 2024 Region 14 South All-Star.

College Career

2025 at LMU: Mack posted a 3.67 ERA over 49 innings in 16 appearances (including starts and relief outings), with 61 strikeouts (11.2 K/9) and several saves. Key performances include:

A shutdown relief effort in a 3-2 win over Santa Clara (April 17, 2025), helping secure a go-ahead victory with a dominant outing.

A strong relief appearance in a 12-4 win over San Francisco (April 12, 2025), contributing to LMU’s overpowering performance.

Prior to LMU (San Jacinto College):

2024: Named Region 14 South All-Star, though specific stats are not detailed in available sources.

Played in the Valley Baseball League (VBL) with the Charlottesville TomSox in summer 2024, showcasing his skills before transferring to LMU.

Role: Mack was versatile at LMU, serving as a starter, bulk reliever, and closer, demonstrating adaptability and durability.

Repertoire

Four-Seam Fastball: Sits 92-95 mph, touching 96-97 mph, with good life and carry due to his height and arm slot, making it effective up in the zone.

Gyro Slider: Mid-80s (82-86 mph), with tight spin and sharp lateral break, serving as a primary swing-and-miss pitch, particularly against right-handed hitters.

Curveball: High-70s to low-80s, with 12-to-6 shape, offering depth and used to change eye levels, though less frequent than the slider.

Splitter: Low-to-mid-80s, a developing pitch with some drop, used to keep hitters off-balance, particularly lefties, but still refining consistency.

His fastball-slider combination is his strongest asset, with the gyro slider noted for its “nasty” movement. His command is average, with potential for improvement as he refines his mechanics.

                Mack –

                Figures…

It took someone named Mack to finally put up some decent pitching numbers.

I have a funny feeling that the Mets will put this guy on the front of the lab line and make him a starter. “Nasty gyro slider”? Come on…

Rating - A

Mack,
Looks like a good prospect.
The loss of that second round selection definitely hurt.
With the signing today of Mitch Voit do you see the team maybe moving some money into the signings of some of the high school players?

Mack,
Camden Lohman is getting some positive reviews from several writers who agree with your assessment of his ability. Let's get him signed and competing.
