2025 Draft - Mets Pick 9-283 - SS - Anthony Frobose - Lakeland HS (NY)

Anthony Frobose is a versatile two-way baseball player from Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak, New York, primarily recognized as a shortstop but also a right-handed pitcher.

He is a 2025 high school graduate and was selected by the New York Mets in the ninth round (283rd overall) of the 2025 MLB Draft. A Rutgers University commit, Frobose faced a decision to sign with the Mets or attend college, with a signing deadline of July 30, 2025.

His draft slot value was approximately $199,900.

As a Shortstop:

Frobose, a right-handed batter and thrower, is noted for his athleticism and plus speed, with a 7.10 60-yard dash time. Defensively, he’s smooth at shortstop, with soft hands, fluid actions, and a strong arm, recording an 83-mph infield velocity. At the plate, he uses his lower body effectively to spray the ball, showing significant power with a maximum exit velocity of 95 mph (averaging 92.6 mph) and a maximum hit distance of 370 feet. His bat speed reaches 72 mph, with a hand speed of 22.3 mph. Scouts note his swing is complicated and needs refinement, but his plus athleticism and pro frame suggest high upside.

As a Pitcher:

On the mound, Frobose’s fastball ranges from 81-88.5 mph (peaking at 94 mph per some reports), with arm-side run and life through the zone. His curveball (69.5-72.5 mph, 1956 rpm spin rate) has an 11-5 shape with plus movement, and he also throws a slider. His pitching delivery is clean, with a 3/4 arm slot and moderate stride, though some scouts believe he’s more likely to stick as a position player due to his fielding and hitting potential.

High School Career:

At Lakeland High School, Frobose played a key role in the 2025 season, contributing to wins like a 7-4 victory over Croton-Harmon (May 1) and a 12-2 rout of Pleasantville (April 25). However, the team struggled in losses, including a 4-11 defeat to Nanuet in the Section 1 Class A playoffs (May 19). He was ranked among New York’s top high school players, placing in the top 104 statewide, top 18 in Section 1, and top 11 in Division A for various stats.

Scouting and Future:

Frobose is a plus athlete with a projectable 6-foot, 165-pound frame, ranked as New York’s No. 14 overall prospect by Perfect Game. His versatility as a two-way player drew attention, with some scouts favoring his pitching potential, though most see him as a shortstop long-term due to his defensive skills and speed. The Mets, known for refining hitters’ swings, likely see him as a high-upside talent. If he signs, he’d likely begin in the Mets’ Rookie-level affiliate; otherwise, he’s set to join Rutgers’ 2025 class alongside other shortstop recruits.

                Another high schooler I like.

Remember, every shortstop easily can be converted to other positions, especially second. Only time will tell where he winds up.

No risk, high side pick.

Rating – A-

Good pick. 6’0” is good, too.
