We continue building our minor league teams by going down “The Keepers” list, assigning those 100+ players to the current level team they should be playing in 2011, based on where we would want them to be in 2012.
Got it?
Okay, here’s prospect # 11-15:
11. OF - Javier Rodriguez – 21/yrs. old - “J-Rod” was a quite number two pick in 2008 that got off to a slow start. He was always considered a prospect, but his output in 2008 (.193) and 2009 (.230) for the GCL Mets had us all wondering. No problem. He blossomed in 2010 for Kingsport (.319/.353/.513/.865, 160-AB. There’s not a ball Javier doesn’t like to swing at (only 6-BB)… a little pop did begin to develop (4-HR) but Rodriguez has to put some muscle on his 6-2, 165 frame.
2011: Savannah
2012: St. Lucie
12. RP - Greg Peavey – Definitely a surprise to all of you. Peavey signed at the last minute and, like Matt Harvey, never was assigned to a Mets team. Peavey has been a prospect for years and was drafted twice before, first by the Yankees out of high school and then Houston. Pitched with more velo in high school but still sits at 94. Very consistent pitcher from Oregon State that projects out as a 4th/5th starter. I see him more as a reliever, but I would place him in the Savannah rotation to see what he’s all about. Peavey was one of the top 10 names in 2007. He needs to re-find that magic and, if he does, the Mets got a good one here.
2011: Savannah rotation
2012: Binghamton pen

2011: Binghamton pen
2012: Queens 7th inning dude
14. SP – Jeurys Familia – 21/yrs. old - Back to a “familiar” name, Jeurys did not have the best year in 2010 (6-9, 5.58), but what he still has is the velo (sits nmid-90s, hits high-90s) and strikeout ability (137 in 121.0-IP). Yes, he also had 74-BB, and there was control problems, but the sizzle is still on the schnozzle… someone needs to teach him to get some movement on his FB because batters are getting too long a look at this straight arrow… I would be tempted to hold him back and let him do Lucy again, but you have to keep moving or the kids behind you will trample you down… I expect the Mets to take their time with this kid… he still has tons of raw potential.
2011: Binghamton rotation
2012: Buffalo rotation
15. 2B Josh Satin – 26/yrs. old - yes, technically, you aren’t considered a “prospect” once you hit 25, but there are a few exceptions in the Mets system because of the years they spent in college. Satin’s rise to the top 15 is happening as we write. He is tearing up winter ball and has now returned to his natural position, second base. This may change everything and could send Reese Havens back to shortstop when he’s healed. Remember this name.
2011: second base in Buffalo
2012: second base in Queens or on another team
