Rome squeeks one out over Savannah 2-1
The Gnats outhit the Braves 8 to 4, with neither team getting an XBH.
Rainy Lara deserved a better fate, outpitching the Braves’ Frank Lafreniere, but taking the loss on an unearned run. Lara’s line was 5.1 IP, 3 H, 2R, 1 ER, 7 K, 1 BB. After 2 games, Lara is 1-1 on the season, with a 0.79 ERA, 0.62 WHIP, 10.33 K/9, 1.59 BB/9.
The Sand Gnats bull pen (Bret Mitchell & Beck Wheeler) held the Braves to no runs on 1 hit for the remaining 3.2 innings. Mitchell gave up the hit, but struck out 3 in his 1.2 innings. Wheeler was perfect over the last two innings.
Brandon Nimmo continued his torrid pace, going 2-4. He now has his average up to .405.
Jayce Boyd and Kevin Plawicki were both held hitless.
Cole Frenzel and Phillip Evans may finally be stirring. After going 2-4 last night, Frenzel was 2-3 with a walk today, while Evans went 3-4.
St. Lucie beats up on Bradenton 8-2
Angel Cuan, (W, 2-0) struck out 8 in 5.0 IP. His 2 ER raised his ERA for the season to 2.08.
Releivers Jim Fuller and Hamilton Bennett held the Marauders scoreless over the final four innings. Neither Fuller nor Bennett have been scored upon in their combined 7 relief appearances so far in this young season.
T.J. Rivera, DHing today, went 1-3 with 2 walks and an RBI.

Cory Vaughn and Blake Forsythe each hit their first HRs of the season, Vaughn’s, a 3 run shot, and Forsythe’s a solo. Forsythe, who hasn’t gotten many AB so far this season, is making a bid for more playing time, posting a slash line of .385/.467/.923/1.390 on a small sample.
Rhyne Hughes: 2-3, 2 R, 2 H, 1 K, 2 BB
Las Vegas walks of with a 5-4 win over Colorado Springs in 11 innings.
The winning run scored on a 2 out bases loaded single by Reese Havens.
Zack Wheeler’s 8 Ks and 0 BBs in 5.1 innings were encouraging. Wheeler had walked 6 in 8.2 innings prior to this start.

Do we re-believe in Havens yet?
I'm treading lightly with him. Just as soon as I start to think he could still make it, he'll go down with an injury. So far not so bad... He's hitting decently, good obp, and his strikeouts are down. However, he's shown very little power.
If he does play himself into consideration, the Mets would be free to trade Murphy AND Valdespin.
