Savannah (17-9) tops Kannapolis (10-16) 5-3
With this win, the Sand Gnats took over sole possession of 1st place in the Southern Division of the South Atlantic League. The Intimidators don’t actually seem so intimidating.
Once again, Jayce Boyd and Kevin Plawecki, the Sand Gnats 1-2 punch, led the offense. Boyd was 2-4 with a double, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Plawecki also went 2-4, with a double, and 1 RBI.
Eudy Pina was 2-3 with a BB and a run scored.
Gabriel Ynoa went 7.0 strong innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits (2 of them HRs) no walks and striking out 8.
Beck Wheeler earned his 2nd save with two perfect innings to close out the game. Wheeler had 2 K’s.
Ft. Myers (22-4) edges St Lucie (16-10) 3-2
Twice St. Lucie took one run leads, only to have Ft. Myers come back to tie them each time. Then, in the bottom of the 9th, with 1 out and runners on the corners, Closer T.J. Chism (L, 0-1) intentionally walked a batter to fill the bases, and then walked in the winning run.
Starter Alex Panteliodis, making his first appearance of the season, went a solid 5.0 innings, giving up 1 ER on 4 H, (1 HR) 1 BB, striking out 3.
Pedro Feliciano allowed a hit and a walk in his scoreless inning. He was followed by Randy Fontanez, (BS, 1) who went 2.0 innings with 1 run on 3 H and 2 BB, striking out 3. Bringing up the rear was the aforementioned Chism, who took only 0.1 innings to let the game get away.
T.J. Rivera (1-4) and Matt Reynolds (0-2 with 2 BB) each scored a run, while Aderlin Rodriguez and Dustin Lawley each had an RBI, and Travis Taijeron and Gilbert Gomez each collected 2 hits.
Erie (14-11) again drubs Binghamton (14-13) 9-1
Today it was Logan Verrett (L, 4-1) who was pasted by the Sea Wolves, getting his first loss of the season. He was done in by a 5 run 5th inning. Overall, in 6.0 innings he allowed 6 runs, all earned, on 8 hits, (1 HR) and no walks.
Verrett was followed by Josh Edgin, who gave up a 3 earned runs on 2 hits (one a HR) and a walk, in 2.0 innings. Edgin struck out 2.
As in yesterday’s game, the mop up pitcher, this time Shawn Teufel pitched a perfect 9th inning.
Darrell Ceciliani and Cesar Puello collected the B-Mets only two hits in this game of offensive lowlights. Puello batted in the Mets only run, scored by Josh Rodriguez.
At this writing, Las Vegas (13-12) trails Reno (8-19) 5-1 after 7 ½ innings
Collin McHugh pitched the first 5.0 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 7 hits (a HR) and 2 walks, with 4 strikeouts.
He was relieved by Greg Peavey, who pitched the 6th and 7th innings, allowing 1 ER on 2 H, 0 BBs, and 3 Ks.
