METS CRUSH CARDINALS 17-1
PORT ST. LUCIE, FLA. — Noah Syndergaard pitched seven innings and struck out seven and Matt Reynolds had three hits and five RBIs as the Mets crushed the Palm Beach Cardinals 17-1 on Thursdayat Tradition Field.
The Mets(22-11) won their sixth straight game while the Cardinals(14-20) dropped their fifth consecutive game.
The Mets had 16 hits and eight of nine starters recorded at least one hit.
Gilbert Gomez went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Robbie Shields finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Cam Maron had two hits, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Dustin Lawley had two RBIs and reached base twice.
The Mets scored four times in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Shields. Reynolds had a bases clearing double in in a five-run third inning. The Mets also scored six times in the sixth inning, which included a two-run double by Maron and also a two-run double by Gomez.
Syndergaard(2-1) retired 15 consecutive batters after allowing a leadoff double in the first. He allowed just two runners on base through the first six innings. He walked one and struck out seven and matched a career-high seven innings.
T.J. Chism struck out two in two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The Mets will host the Palm Beach Cardinals on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Tradition Field. Domingo Tapia is the scheduled starter for the Mets.
