Jacob deGrom Ranked on MLB Network's "Top 100 Players Right Now!"

JACOB DEGROM RANKED 8TH ON MLB NETWORK’S
TOP 100 PLAYERS RIGHT NOW! COUNTDOWN

February 14, 2020 – New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom was ranked eighth on MLB Network’s annual Top 100 Players Right Now! program last night, which ranks the best players in Major League Baseball. deGrom, who ranked 10th on last year’s countdown, ranked one spot ahead of the Colorado Rockies’ Nolan Arenado and one spot behind the New York Yankees’ Gerrit Cole. In addition to deGrom, the Mets’ Pete Alonso ranked 24thJeff McNeil ranked 49th and Michael Conforto ranked 78th.
Hosted by MLB Network’s Greg Amsinger, alongside Sean Casey and Ron Darling, the six-part series across three nights counted down the top players based on player performance over the past several seasons, with an emphasis on 2019 and projected 2020 performance. Base-running, defensive value and award finishes were all taken into account when evaluating players, including those returning from injury. Top 100 Players Right Now! featured a cumulative 204 All-Stars selections, 76 Silver Slugger Awards, 38 Gold Glove Awards, 25 World Series championships, 14 Rookie of the Year Awards, 13 MVP Awards and 12 Cy Young Awards.
On last night’s live countdown, MLB Network analyst and 13-year MLB veteran Ron Darling said of deGrom, “This year, he used the fastball a lot. He had games where he threw the slider 50 percent of the time, he had games where he used the changeup. What I’m telling you is that he won the Cy Young with a certain pitch and then he didn’t really have it this year and he still won another Cy Young.”
