HOW ARE THOSE WANNABES DOING?
When you are vying for a job, you want to impress the boss or bosses in that interview or meeting.
Wannabe hitters?
The Mets so far have 32 hitters who weren't regulars (starting or platoon) in 2019 that have gotten to hit this spring.
They of course get to hit against tuning-up regulars and wannabe pitchers of other teams.
Early so far (6 games) , but how collectively have they done?
37 for 170, 8 doubles, 4 HRs, 12 HRs, 14 walks, 51 Ks.
In other words, not good.
I will start to list the best hitters in a few days, when the numbers are large enough to be more meaningful.
Wannabe pitchers?
Pretty similar criteria - 26 pitchers who are unlikely, as of today, to make the opening day squad in my opinion - no need to name names at this point.
44 IP, 42 H, 20 ER, 4.09 ERA, 8 HR, 11 BB, 34 Ks.
Not bad.
Actually, the top 20 have done quite well, as the bottom 6 have done this:
10 IP, 18 H, 15 ER, 13.50 ERA, 5 HR, 3 BB, 5 Ks.

Stephen Villines admittedly had bad pitch selection on ONE pitch but has looked good so far in appearances and has a new slider. Keep an eye on him in upper minors.
The hitters and the bottom-feeding pitchers are having Terry Collins managerial flashbacks.
