From Tom...

Rank what you think will be the top 5 Mets prospects a year from now, assuming none are traded.

Baty, Mauricio, Alvarez, Allan, and Alexander Ramirez, in that order.

Of course, the reason Tylor Megill won't be in the top 5 is...he'll already be a major leaguer!

I'm not the expert on the minors that others are around here.

I'd say: Allan, Baty, Alvarez, Mauricio and Robert Dominguez. Not necessarily in that order.

I hate diving so deeply into the minors to identify prospects when in the upper levels you mostly have suspects.

Yes. Amazing that Andres Gimenez used to be rated so highly. Then Jim Duquette at the trade deadline described him as "on a par with Ruben Tejada".

Quite a drop there, if true.

Gimenez had a tough year last year as an 20 year old in double A. Even Kelenic struggled as a 19 year old when he got to double a last year. Gimenez rebounded to lead the Arizona Fall league in BA abd OPS. He was also named the best defensive player in the Mets minors the past two years (maybe a product of slim pickings). I still rate him higher than the prospects that most have as the Mets top 5 who haven't passed A ball. Baty is a great prospect who will play next year as a 20 year old in one of the A ball leagues. Gimenez will be 21 and play at AAA.

My top 5: Gimenez, Kevin Smith, Baty, Alvarez, Allan. - Maurico and Vientos have great tools as well which is why others rate them so high but I like the two Smith and Gimenez in my top 5 because of what Smith did last year in AA and Gimenez did in Arizona.

Alvarez, Mauricio, Allen, Szapucki, Baty,

Agree with John that Gimenez isn’t as bad as he looked, and the Tejada compliant fair. Tejada had little speed and wasn’t plus defensively. Too, Gimenez has a little more pop than Ruben. But, his lack of upside keeps him out of my top five.
