JUPITER, Fla. (Sept. 5, 2021) – The Jupiter Hammerheads rallied back from an early 4-0 deficit to beat the St. Lucie Mets 7-5 on Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium (Box Score).

The Hammerheads split the six-game series with the win and moved to 1.5 games ahead of the Mets in the Low-A Southeast East Division standings.

The Mets raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning by scoring all the runs with two outs. Justin Guerrera reached safely on a bases loaded error by shortstop Jose Salas that brought home Jeremy Vasquez for a 1-0 lead. Alex Ramirez scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. Jack-Thomas Wold then ripped a two-run single to put the Mets up 4-0.

Robert Gsellman (lat) made a rehab start and was greeted rudely by the Hammerheads, as the first three batters singled. A hit by Cody Morissette got Jupiter on the board. Victor Mesa, Jr. hit a sac fly to make it 4-2. Gsellman struck out Paul McIntosh for the second out and was taken out of the game at 17 pitches.

Kolby Kubichek came in an allowed an inherited run to score on a Davis Bradshaw single that made it a 4-3 game.

Gsellman was charged with three runs on three hits in 0.2 innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out one.

Marcus Chiu led off the second inning with a solo homer off Kubichek to tie the game, 4-4. Salas hit a two-out single later in the inning and Morissette hit a double to give the Hammerheads a 5-4 lead. An error on third baseman Warren Saunders brought home another run for a 6-4 Hammerheads lead.

Another error on the Mets, their fifth of the game, in the fourth inning scored Morissette to make it 7-4.

Alex Ramirez hit a ground rule double to start the seventh inning. He moved to third on a single by Brandon McIlwain and scored on a double play ball to cut the Mets deficit to 7-5.

The Mets got a runner on in the eighth and ninth but could not score against Jupiter reliever Chandler Jozwiak.

Jozwiak recorded a six-out save, his third of the season.

Kubichek (0-3) took the loss for the Mets. He gave up four runs (two earned) and six hits in 3.1 innings.

Trey McLoughlin pitched 3.0 scoreless innings after Kubichek.

Rowdey Jordan went 3 for 5 from the leadoff spot. Ramirez went 1 for 3 with a double, two runs and was hit by pitches. McIlwain was 2 for 4 and reached base three times.
