After pitching a combined shutout Friday, the
shutout was out of the question for both teams after two innings
in New Britain’s 6-5 win last night. For the second
straight start, the Rock Cats put six runs on Dylan Owen, this
time doing it in five innings on 10 hits. Down 3-1 heading into
the fourth inning, Lucas Duda hammered his second home
run of the season to center to tie the game up at three, scoring
Nick Evans, who Jay Rainville had walked ahead of him.
The B-Mets took their only lead of the contest in the fifth when
Josh Thole lined a single to center to cap off three in a row
reaching against Rainville to start the inning, making it 4-3.
However, New Britain answered in a big way in the bottom of
the frame thanks to Rene Tosoni, who smashed a three-run
homer over the right-field fence to put the Rock Cats in front
for good, 6-5. Emmanuel Garcia got the B-Mets within one
with a broken-bat RBI double in the sixth, but Rob Delaney
and Anthony Slama came on to seal the deal with three scoreless
innings of relief to give Rainville the win despite giving up
five runs in 5.2 innings. Slama notched his 10th save of the
year with a scoreless ninth.

LHP Ryan Mullins gets the call for the Rock Cats in the rubber
match of the series. In contrast to Sanchez, Mullins is coming
off his poorest start of the season. He allowed six runs on 13
hits over 4.2 innings against Trenton May 26 and took the
loss after winning his previous two starts. Mullins is 2-6 with a
4.74 ERA in 43.2 innings and has walked only 11 men during
that period. However, he has allowed 65 hits equating to
a .344 batting average against. This is his third straight season
spending time with the Rock Cats. In 2008, he tallied a 9-
9 record with a 4.31 ERA in 148.1 innings allowing 169 hits,
fifth-most in the league. He also allowed 18 home runs, the
third-highest total in the Eastern League.
