Lexington 5, Savannah 2

Brian Pellegrini’s three-run homer capped a four-run first inning for the Lexington Legends as they defeated Savannah Sand Gnats, 5-2, Sunday in front of 1,519 at Historic Grayson Stadium. Jordan Lyles (4-2) notched his first win since Opening Day for Lexington while Eric Beaulac (2-2) suffered the loss for the Gnats.

After two straight hits to start the game, Steve Brown reached first on a Wilmer Flores error that scored Jay Austin to give the Legends the lead. Pellegrini followed Brown’s single with his third home run in just eight games with the Legends since being sent down from High-A Lancaster. On the season, Pellegrini has 10 total home runs.

Juan Lagares would supply all the offense for Savannah in the defeat as he drove in both of Savannah’s runs Sunday night. He singled home Campbell from second in the second on an infield single and some heads-up baserunning by the Norwich, Conn. native Campbell. In the seventh he pulled the Sand Gnats within three when he drove home Flores with a single to left-center.

The Constanza, D.R. native finished the game 2-for-4 and has now collected at least two hits in six of his last seven games.

Beaulac settled down after his rocky first inning, retiring 12 batters in a row at one point and allowing just two hits after the opening frame. He worked six innings and allowed the four runs (three earned) on five hits with three strikeouts. Kyle Allen pitched the final three innings and gave up one run on five hits with two strikeouts.
